This is us hoping we get an Antonio Gates. Did this guy even work out for teams?

Worked out with the Cowboys, they brought in Matt Flynn and basically had to teach him everything but coaches were supposedly impressed. he's got soft hands they say

had this debate with Alexander a few weeks ago. He's a basketball-lean 275 lbs so I think he can actually get bigger and play OT, like a Jermey Parnell, who was lighter at Ole Miss than Geathers is.

I can see him making the 53-man 1) to protect him and 2) due to Escobar's injury.

Given that Witten likes to play 1000 snaps, there is merit to holding onto a developmental TE like this that would never play anyway. Seems like a decent bet on the future. Now it's just a matter of how his body holds up to contact of camp.

I'd keep him at TE. He played D1 hoops do he's used to using his body to shield off defenders. I imagine he's got some vertical ability too with that wingspan.

Yeah, normally, I think we settle for guys. But this group of late rounders has some serious potential. Very athletic group it seems like

Yep. I'm normally shaking my head at this point. But these all made sense.

"Rico Gathers had 292 offensive rebounds the last 2 seasons for Baylor, more than any other major conference player."

This dude can go up and get the ball...he could develop into a good red-zone weapon for us. Like the pick, plus it's a 6th rounder guys.

Are there a lot of 275 lb. TE's in the league?

Again, that's with basketball conditioning. With NFL lifting he can easily get to 300 lbs.

I don't doubt he could gain another 25 lbs. But you don't take a guy who hasn't played football for 5 or 6 years and stick him on the o-line, too difficult a transition, requires too much skill, skill he wont be able to attain for a number of years. They can teach this guy to run a 10 yard seam route in the end zone in no time.
