Over all the Cowboys played well. At least it was a football game and featured the Good Guys!! Gathers play well...just needs some time and development.

He is a match up nightmare for defenses. He is way to quick / fast for LBs and too big for dbs.

I feel with the right Coaching Rico Gathers can be developed into a potential Probowl TE, but also think that these very special resources may not be available in Dallas.

Yeah the physical ability is pretty insane. Now the skill just has to start catching up to the ability.

Sharper routes, driving off the ball on his blocking, setting the edge on zones, and just all of the little details.



We saw him catch 1 pass last year and he just dragged guys with him and he catches a bootleg last night and of course breaks the first tackle. He's got the talent.


Now maybe with more playing time we find out he can't catch or something but right now the arrow is pointed up.

He doesn't move like someone that's that size. He sort of runs like how I'd expect a running back too......it's a small sample size but he should be growing as a player on the 53 man roster and I've seen enough to where I'd rather have him than Swaim.

I dont know. Swaim is pretty good. I even think some of the UDFA TEs are showing some promise. We are pretty deep at TE now.

If they were willing to carry Darius Jackson while having 4 RBs on the roster, I'm sure they are willing keep Rico on the 53. Especially since he looked pretty decent playing ST last night.

Bennett was probably good but he just wasn't used properly.


The Cowboys coaches have failed every single time with the backup TE.

Bennett does seem to wear out his welcome pretty quick though. He's now on his 5th team and he usually produces like a top 5 TE so i'm not saying the Cowboys should feel validated but maybe we just weren't the team that should've picked him.

Regardless... Hopefully they will have learned from their past mistakes and figure out how to just get the ball in this guys hands from time to time. The rest will come with the longer he practices his craft.

Agree with everyone. He definitely needs to play all of preseason. After seeing that touchdown I really get all the hype. He causes huge mismatch problems in the end zone for opposing defenses. Get him the reps and his blocking will hopefully improve.

as someone mentioned, get him ready for a couple plays so he can add value early in the season. it could be roll-out. it could be a goal line play or 2.

also what would it be like to play Rico on the outside in a 10 package. what would the D do?

Agree 100%. You don't draft a kid like this knowing he hasn't played organized football in over 10 years to not have a long term plan in place.

Kids moves really well for being such a big guy. He is no LeBron, but looking at him you see that same type of agility that is crazy for such a big dude.
