For someone who hasn't played football in many years, it appears the current coaching staff has done wonders with Rico so far. All the resources needed are in place.I feel with the right Coaching Rico Gathers can be developed into a potential Probowl TE, but also think that these very special resources may not be available in Dallas.
Everyone is faster than Witten, if Witten can teach him how to run cleaner routes then Rico becomes a cheat code. That guy has great hands. He can certainly catch the ball. He moves well for a guy and looks faster than Witten.
He's not getting cut.
with witten in his final year(s), it would be insane to release Rico. saves us at least a 2nd round pick in 2018. another year of development, he should be good to go.
could someone please compare Rico's blocking to Escobar's blocking in his rookie/2nd year?
the guy tries hard as shown in the special teams play.
as someone mentioned, get him ready for a couple plays so he can add value early in the season. it could be roll-out. it could be a goal line play or 2.
also what would it be like to play Rico on the outside in a 10 package. what would the D do?
Jason will be around a lttle while longer ,but it's time to work Rico in the game plan.right, but how many do we think he would stay for.
the contract looked like a salary cap manipulation tool.
Lol, the route was atrocious? What are you even basing that on?
I'm basing on the fact that he started off the line and basically just ran from the left side of the field to the right with no cuts, no direction, no actual familiar route from the 0-9 route tree.
Anything else? Or do you want to try my football knowledge again and fail?
Heres the thing.
Swaim is really good at setting the edge and Zeke is a back that will benefit greatly from a guy like that.
Wittens blocking isn't what it was so we really need a guy who can set the edge in our run game.
Rico definitely has the talent to be that guy as well but right now some of the stuff still looks unnatural to him.
2 to 3 years from now they should really have something with Rico but they have 4 weeks to really ramp up his progression.
Find a handful of things he is good at and use him in those situations.
It looks like he can get up and get a football and he can chew up yards quick so drag routes and naked boot legs should be good. You would also think he could dominate the seems downfield like Gronk.
