I agree with Larry Allen first;
On our team now, I would say, Bledsoe if he wins a super bowl
2nd Keyshawn Johnson, especially if wins a super bowl, that will be 2 he was in
3rd. Jason Witten, maybe- got to remember he will be in contention with Shockey
4th. Demarcus Ware-I think in time, he will be great
5th Maybe Terrance Newman, think he is coming into his own, if he can win 2-3 superbowls with cowboys
6th Glover, but only as senior committee
7th. Roy Williams, but only if cowboys go to super bowls, have tobe more than 1 though, his liablity shows up too much in pass coverage
8th. One player you guys might be overlooking is Marco Riveria, was a probowler-but only as senior committte voting, and if cowboys win SB
9th Either Marcus Spears or Chris Canty-Canty has been likened to LeonLett
10th-Emmitt Smith will be
11th-Cliff Harris might later again but probably not
12th Daryl Johnston might, but only at end of his career broadcasting
An excellent and well thought out list. Thanks. Agree with much of it.
My List of past players/coaches not on our current roster as follows:
Deion Sanders-we'll have to share him with the Falcons, 49ers, Commanders and us, but I think he goes without a doubt.
Michael Irvin-I don't think you can leave him out of the Triplets despite his faults.
Emmitt Smith-duh. Won't even waste time making a case.
Charles Haley-again, shared b/w us and the 9ers, but he's a definite possibility at some point. 5 winning SB rings..who's got more..?
Cliff Harris-I still think he has a chance down the road. He was a cut from the Larry Wilson cloth and Wilson is in the HOF. Roy Williams would like to be 50% of what Cliff Harris was.
Bob Hayes-Not giving up on this yet. He has his supporters. If you saw him play, you know why he should be there. Defenses had to be re-invented to defend him. He was the the guy that opened the door for speed at WR. This is a player that demanded huge respect in his day. Sad he's been ignored.
Jimmy Johnson-some will scoff, but given time, he may get in like Madden did today. And Jimma has 2 SB rings to Maddens one. If JJ grows as a celebrity on TV, I see the possibility. But Jimma got to come up with a shtick..like Madden's 'Tough actin' Tinactin' thing or 'Boom-Bam signature'.
Drew Pearson-another forgotten BMOC for us as Cowboys fans and there never was a better clutch WR in the NFL except Boyd Dowler from GB and Lenny Moore with the Colts. Who caught all those passes Staubach threw anyway..? This is robbery he didn't get in the HOF..Hail Mary..? Come on.
Dan Reeves-a very distinct longshot, but a very good coach who was a distinguished player for us and had successful coaching stops in Dallas, Denver, New York and Atlanta. A Landry protege'. Well respected. Driven. Heart attacks couldn't stop him. Single-handedly re-introduced the halfback pass in the late 60's to an NFL that had stopped using it.
Mike Ditka-George Halas wanna be and an All-Pro career as a proto-typical TE in Chicago and a SB ring with Dallas who later coached under Landry and went on to win a SB with Payton as a HC plus coached in NO for a time. Iron Mike might take awhile to get serious votes in the HOF, but it's not too farfetched..especially for the HOF voting block in the Midwest and NE..they liked him.
My List of owner/coaches on our current roster as follows:
Bill Parcells-He's already in, but if we win one with him, he gets Bronzed instantly right on the sidelines in front of National TV. Instead of Gatorade buckets, molten bronze.
Jerry Jones-he's already in a league with Rooney and others who have been inducted. Guys like George Young who recently passed away have passed the torch to Jerry Jones. He's a lock unless he does something stupid, like fire BP.
My List of Current players just maybe one SB away from getting recognition for the HOF-
Larry Allen-OL don't get in often (ask Rayfield Wright) But what is it..8 or 10 straight Pro Bowls..?
Bledsoe-if he can take us to a Championship and add to his career totals, absolutely a good shot at it. He is a sterling person and the HOF likes that kind. He just needs to win the Big One if possible. Needs to go out on a high note.
Rivera-agreed about him. He's had a slow start with us, but he's very possibly a HOF stud. Again..6+ Pro Bowls in his career..? If he can rebound from last year and put in another 2-3 years of high play...very possible.
Keyshawn Johnson-Key is an inigma wrapped in a question mark. But is a player of the Michael Irvin mold. The bigger the play needed, the more he gets involved. One SB already and if BP gets him another..he's got an argument for consideration. Another guy that needs to go out on a high note to get serious HOF consideration.
LaRoi Glover-another guy who has strung about 6+ Pro Bowls together before this year. If they can find a way to afford him and play him, he's got a good shot down the road if he stays with a good team.
My list of current players in the incubator for the HOF-
Jason Witten-this guy will be there over the years barring injury and a QB in Big D who can throw. He meeds to string about 5 Pro Bowls together and has to be more dominating inside the 20.
Demarcus Ware-This guy has all the tools. He just needs to stay injury-free and get good support around him.
Julius Jones-I think he's definitely get the right tools. If healthy and has an OL he can grow behind for a 5-6 year period, he can be another Emmitt Smith. He's faster and has a second and third gear Emmitt only dreamed about.
Roy Williams-If they can get him a stable mate at FS, this guy could settle and be Pro Bowl for 10 years. He just needs to be played in one way, near the LOS and turn him loose. I always remember BP saying he's one bisquit away from being a LBer. Pass him the platter and let him be one of the outside terror LBers we are looking for.
Terrence Newman-Could be a Pro Bowler for years if they get the defense built and a pass rush established. Excellent cover CB with Deion-type skills. He needs more Ints. to build his rep. Doable.
Chris Canty-I like this guy and he's in the right place at the right time to really make a name for himself. If he and Demarcus Ware and Marcus Spears jell, these three could take turns going to the Pro Bowl each year for years.
Marcus Spears-There is no reason this guy won't be the rock on which the defense will be built over the next 10 years. It's still early, but he's got tools to succeed...especially with BP here, who wants the 3-4 to thrive.
My List for inanimate objects to make the HOF-
Barry Switzer's Gun-if not for him carrying his gun on a plane flight that he got busted for, we still might be having him as a coach. The gun deserves some sort of immortality..right..? It helped us get rid of Barry when nothing else seemed to be working. Even 4th and 1 yds calls inside our own 30 yd. line.
I say we bronze it and hang it in the Dallas nitch at the HOF.
So in looking at things, I'd say we still have a lot of opportunity to get faces into the HOF still. And there are many I haven't even brought up that may still be considered.
And as for our current players, there is definitley potential there..too.
So we'll see. After today with Aikman and Wright succeeding, more maybe around the corner.
Thanks to all who have replied.
