or even Woodson for that matter?

Woodson has not been retired that long. I think his time will come, but it is too early. Emmitt got in quickly and that is because Jerry wanted the triplets to go in together. Also, he is the all time leading rusher, so he is very worthy of going in right away.

It has always been strange as to why Pearson is not in the ROH. This goes back to the Tex Schramm days. He just did not put too many guys in the ROH.

Part of the reason Drew isn't in has to do with a merchandising (dang my spelling is getting as bad as Dargon's :D) deal that rubbed Jerry the wrong way. I don't remember the details.

I'd like to see 3 DB's from 3 different eras--Woodson, Walls, and Green--all go in together.
:starspin
And yeah, it'll happen when that star stops spinning.

Drew will never get in and I think it has alot to do with a business deal that went bad with him and Jerry. But I think if Bob Hayes got in then Drew should definitely get in.

But I think it boils down to the numbers and Drew never really put up big numbers in a season. Thats why he is not in the HOF. Yes he was Roger's goto receiver but Tony Hill put up better numbers than Drew over a career and single season.

Drew is a classy guy but I think it is over for all the 70 and 80s great getting in the Ring of Honor or Hall of Fame.

The only two or three that has a chance in the Ring of Honor are Everson Walls, Too Tall Jones, and Harvey Martin. And Everson and Harvey are the only HOF hopefuls of that era.

JJ will be very particular about who gets in and he wants it to be very exclusive.

Maybe Tony Hill also deserves to go in. Each year, offensive numbers seem to go up. More and more rules changes have been made to benefit the offense. That is a reason why Tony has better numbers than Drew. Hill started his career in 1977, 4 years after Pearson.

1977

A 16-game regular season, 4-game preseason was adopted to begin in 1978, March 29. A second wild-card team was adopted for the playoffs beginning in 1978, with the wild-card teams to play each other and the winners advancing to a round of eight postseason series.

Rules changes were adopted to open up the passing game and to cut down on injuries. Defenders were permitted to make contact with eligible receivers only once; the head slap was outlawed; offensive linemen were prohibited from thrusting their hands to an opponent's neck, face, or head; and wide receivers were prohibited from clipping, even in the legal clipping zone.

Jerry Jones can claim that he wants the Ring of Honor to be exclusive all he wants but it really boils down to personal reasons as to why Drew Pearson is not in there.
And that reason was the same for Lee Roy Jordan when Tex Schramn was still here. Jordan took far to long to get in there because he and Tex had some kind of disagreement.
Tony Hill may have had a bigger stat season than Drew ever had but anyone who is a Cowboys fan from the 70's knows who Mr. Clutch is and it wasn't Tony Hill.
Drew caught heroic td's that are still talked about today from 3 different qb's.
Clint Longley-Thanksgiving day miracle.
Staubach-Hail Mary catch.
Danny White-caught 2 tds in the last 5 minutes to beat the Falcons in a playoff game to win by 1pt.
I like Jerry as an owner and there is no one else I would want as our owner but not having Drew in the Ring of Honor is ridiculous and petty if it is over some kind of disagreement from the past. Get over it and do the right thing.
Getting Drew and Harvery Martin in the Ring of Honor would be a classy touch as both were best friends along with being great players.

I remember know what it was with Pearson and Jerry. Drew bought the naming rights to the phrase Ring of Honor and Jerry got pissed off because he couldn't use it for marketing.

I don't think Jerry is keeping Drew out over a petty arguement about hat sales or whatever. That occurred only a few years ago. Jerry had plenty of opportunity to put him in prior to that spat and so did Tex prior to Jerry's arrival.

His lore and legend is secure among Dallas Cowboy fans. But he is in the top half of the middle tier re "greats."
The merchandising deal has bruised some egos/feelings, but in my mind the HOF should be the template, the crucible for induction into the Ring of Honor.
Too, Pearson's smug and knowing style (unlike us) doesn't help him, either.
But god bless Pearson and his family this holiday season. And Tex. And Tom. And Jerra. And T.O. and Romo. (If I forgot anyone, I don't care.)

Go Cowboys!
Hawks are going down Saturday!

To a degree I believe it already is. Not HOF induction, but HOF finalist status.

Jerry put Hayes in before Hayes was a finalist, but with that one exception, unless the player is a lock for the HOF, Jones has waited until his hand is forced by the player making the list of 15 finalists in the HOF selection process.

That's doing it backwards, IMO.

Harvey Martin didn't even make the preliminary list for the HOF this year. He was the only eligible member of the HOF All-Decade Team of the 70's not to make the preliminary list. There is no logic in that, and Jones has to share some of the blame.

I think it is a shame that Harvey Martin is not in the Ring of Honor. He played in three super bowls. He was a super MVP and played 10 years for the Cowboys, which is more years than Cliff Harris, Don Meredith, and Don Perkins. I have no problem with the guys that are in there but Harvey martin is more than deserving and it is a shame that Bob Hayes was voted in before his death ( he played 9 years and had the drug problem) and not Harvey Martin.

Just like he did the right thing with Tex and putting him in there...I am sure Harvey will be in someday as well.
