Rivals Mock Draft

dbair its pointless to talk to him. he made the idiotic absolutist assertion that Porter was the worst corner in this draft. He will never back down from it and he apparently thinks hes in a better position to judge such things than by people like Gosselin, Boyleheart etc.

Wow. It's amazing that someone would look at a team's total yards and total points and make the generalization that a single position unit on that team must suck, instead of actually looking at stats that are based solely on that position unit.

Really, I mean it's just silliness.

I guess if Ware gets 4 sacks in a game, but we give up 500 yards passing, Ware must have sucked in that game. Who knew?

the bolded statement I agree with...your really making yourself look bad dude

Actually, I said he's probably the worst corner in this draft.

I haven't seen a shred of evidence to refute my reasoning for thinking that other than "he'll be drafted high so he must not be that bad." Seriously, no one has even attempted to refute it.

Says the guy who thinks Sacks and TFL isn't a good measure of D-line play.

he can say that all he wants, I'm fine with it

but he is making himself look kinda foolish by arguing that Porter sux because the DL was clearly doing its job, when it CLEARLY was overmatched by just about everyone they played...the whole defensive was a sieve

what you continue to post is a meaningless average for those stats of the entire season, and its worthless in their regard because several of their games were against extremely poor competition

unless you can go and pull me the numbers from the indv games (which you cant, because niether of those are an official stat in college football anyway) then yeah, I am going to continue to point out the obvious Theo...their defense as a whole was bad and the defensive line was obviously poor because they gave up a ton of points, a ton of yds, a ton of rushing yds and what would appear to be a very high comp % against when they faced 1-A teams

teams that have good to excellent defensive lines dont post the kind of defensive stats they did...

All college teams play weak opponents. Indiana had about the NCAA average SOS in 2007, yet they ended up in the top quarter in both sacks and TFL. It's amazing that they'd achieve that while having a terrible D-line. Amazing.

Your argument has ZERO substance.

Seriously, if you'd like to refute anything in this thread, go right ahead. I doubt you can.

like I said Theo...show me some proof dude...do you understand what an "average" is? do you not understand that if you have a small sampling of something (like say, 13 total games) and you have one or two really off the chart games (like they probably did vs Indiana Sts and Western Michigans) that the overall numbers are "skewed". I doubt anyone would look at the stats from those 12 games I posted and come away with anything other than the obvious- that Indiana's defense was bad...all of it was bad...not one or two players, all of it...and teams with good defensive fronts dont post numbers on a WEEK IN AND WEEK OUT basis like those I put there for you and everyone else to see. The DL is the key to an entire defense...teams with good defensive fronts just dont post those kinds of overall numbers...you keep clamoring over TFL's and sacks, who got those TFL's and sacks? You dont even know. What about yds per rush attempt? what about yds per pass attempt? comp % allowed?

Your argument has ZERO substance

I honestly think you argue just for the sake of arguing

Goose has Porter rated Sixth, but what does he know?. He only talks to the Scouts daily this time of the year.

Another person that doesn't quite get that I don't disagree with the fact that he'll be drafted high.

So your saying that he's just not good?. O.K., I respect your opinion.

A quick scan shows that Indiana had 23 of 42 sacks in 8 conference games, with the high game mark of 9 against Iowa. They racked up several against the non-conference opponents (17 in the first three games against Indiana State, Western Michigan, and Akron).

Illinois finished 15th in the nation in terms of sacks allowed per game with 1.23 sacks allowed per game.

I didn't see this posted anywhere else, so apologies if it is/was and I missed it.

This is who Rivals.com has the Boys taking in the first two rounds:

#22: Jonathan Stewart, RB
My assessment: His toe injury still has me a bit concerned and I think we can get better value. CB should be our focus at 22.

#28: Kenny Phillips, FS
My assessment: CB is still the greater need, even if we don't get one with the first pick. Not sure if they are planning on using him as a corner. Is that possible?

#62: Tracy Porter, CB
My assessment: Again, CB should be our first pick of the draft, not the third. There's better value at WR and RB in the position.

Overall, I'm not sold on these selections. I would much rather see us get Talib with our first pick, trade the #28 for Williams and select Rice, Johnson, Charles or Smith to fill the RB need.

Who the heck runs this site?

If you would take out Phillips and add Hardy that wouldn't be too bad of a draft. IMO.

Sorry, that was a misquote. It should have read Iowa. I have corrected it.
