I admit I was wrong about Rivers- I did not think he was going to be this good at all, let alone this quickly. BUT on the other hand it certainly gives credence to letting a young QB sit back for his first year or two and study the game without forcing him to play. The last 2 QB's this has been done are Carson Palmer and Rivers. You look at the QB's that were thrown to the wolves right away: ROths and Eli Manning have done pretty well but I maintain they would be better if they had had the time to sit back and study the game.

Wish we had him too. I remember seeing him play during last years preseason and thinking to myself that I like how he throws the ball and how he looks out there. Sure enough sitting helped him. I gotta think we'll finally draft a QB this upcoming draft, especially if Bledsoe isn't resigned.

COmes down to what we really think about Romo. Rivers went right at the top of the draft so we never had a real shot at him.

I've pushed for us to get 3 QBs in the last few years: Carson Palmer, Philip Rivers, and Matt Leinart and all 3 were within our reach but we passed on each one.

You can tell I'm a bit of a homer in my selections (I grew up in L.A. and now live near Raleigh NC) but having seen these guys more than most other college QBs I had a good feel for how well they could play.

In 2003 the Bengals were asking for our 1st (#5 Terrence Newman) and our 3rd (#69 Jason Witten) for the #1 pick which was Palmer. Now I would hate to lose Newman and Witten but it is a lot easier to find quality CBs and TEs in the draft than franchise QBs.

Prior to last season, the Chargers were entertaining offers for Rivers since Brees had played so well the season before (Brees 2004 stats: 27 TDs, 7 INTs, 104.8 rating) and they didn't need both. Parcells preferred a veteran QB and we went with Bledsoe instead. I don't know what the Chargers were expecting in trade for Rivers but unless it was 2 1st rounders I would have gone for it.

In the 2006 draft my dream was that some of the mocks were right and somehow Leinart would fall to #10 and we would have a chance to trade up for him. According to the Draft Pick Value chart the #10 pick is worth 1300 points. We might have offered our 1st & 2nd round picks: 900 + 370 points = 1270 points. We might have had to throw in a 6th rounder but that wouldn't have been that big of a deal.

We would have given up: Bobby Carpenter, Anthony Fasano, and Montavious Stanley. Carpenter has hardly played at all so far and Stanley didn't make the team. Fasano is the only one we would be "giving up" but he is easily replaced IMO.

The chance to get a top quality QB should not be passed by and now we've done it 3 times in the last 4 years.

Stupid Jones! :bang2: Stupid Parcells! :bang2: :bang2: :bang2:

It's not in BP's thinking to go with a young QB when he feels a vet gives us the best chance to win. At sometime you need to start looking down the road and build for the future. We have not done that since we started bringing in older vets to back up Aikman. We tried to take the cheap route and go with Henson (only cost a 3rd rounder) and we all know how that ended.

From what I heard the Bengals wanted more then that for Palmer. But even if that was all they wanted, remember Palmer only had one top year at USC=the others were pedestrian at best. He looked like a real gamble. NOT to mention that BP still had to sort out QC and Hutch. So it really was not on the table.
Rivers: I heard they wanted 1,2,3 for Rivers or two #1's depending on where they thought you would draft. Just too high a price.
And this year = it looked like if we could get our O line to do better then DB would do fine. Remmber how he started the season last year and was doing great untill the blocking started to fall apart. SO at the time of the draft a young QB was not something we were looking for. ANd also as regards Leinart, there were a lot of doubts about the fact that he had so much talent surrounding him that almost anyone would have looked pretty good.
Of course this is all hindsight now- but at the time none of those guys were considered sure things.

If he does not improve this year, he will be gone no doubt. We will go with Romo, but will have to look for some veteran backup. AND maybe draft another young guy. Of course if Romo gets a shot and tanks this year, then there is no doubt we make a big move for next year. Unfortunately, there is not likely to be another Brees in FA, so that means we have to draft one.
This year, I would not have been averse to going after Brees, but then so many were worried about his injury. Kind of looks silly now. But that is why hindsight is ALWAYS 20-20.

I just don't believe Parcells wants to draft a young QB or to even work with one unless he has to (like if Bledsoe gets hurt).

I had no doubts about any of these 3 guys but then as I said, I'm a bit of a homer regarding each one of them. Of the 3, Rivers is the one who impressed me the most in college but Leinart looks like he could end up being the best of the 3 as a pro. I couldn't believe how cool he was against the Bears and how the team responded to him. He has those leadership qualities that you simply can't teach. I saw a lot of it when he was at USC but wasn't sure how well it would translate to the NFL in his rookie year. What a waste that he is with the sorry Cardinals.

I feel completely confident in predicting that we will NEVER win a SB without a top QB, and Bledsoe doesn't qualify as that. No matter how much talent we add at LB and TE we aren't going to win the big one until we address the QB position and that puts us a few years away yet.

I COULD NOT AGREE MORE!!!

how anyone who is a fan of this team thinks that we can win a Super Bowl w/ Quincy/Vinnie/Bledsoe is beyond me.

wake up and smell the coffee peeps... jeez!!! :bang2: :bang2: :bang2:

I understand there are no "sure bets" when drafting a qb... but how could anyone who knows football and has watched Matt Leinart the last 2 years not know that he has "it"??? The dude is a straight up winner. He's calm, cool, and collected. The game is not too big for that dude. Look where he played and the people he was exposed to while at USC!!!

If i were GM last April, and I had Young, Leinart, and Cutler sitting there... it would not even be a question in my mind who i would take. (and i think Cutler and will be a really good qb in the future too... Young could also be there too, but he's in a tough spot in TN)

I hope to God that Jerrah has finally learned his lesson... No more of this B.S..... let's get us a REEEEEEEEEEEEAL QB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

in the meantime... START ROMO NOW TO SEE WHAT WE GOT - BEFORE WE GO INTO NEXT YEARS DRAFT.

GO ROMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Shut the ol' cranky know it all Tuna fish the heck up!)

Agree w/ all your points...

The only thing i will say is that Leinart will be the savior of the pink taco franchise out in the desert. As long as they put an O-line in front of him and continue to build their D, he will be the savior out there.

I hate the Cardinals, and i don't buy jerseys, but i want a Dallas Cowboys jersey with Leinart's name on it!!!

I agree. Leinart is the real deal, anyone who watched him college should have realized that.

I hate the Cardinals, but I want a CARDINALS jersey with Leinarts name on it.

There have been 4 wins by all pro QB's in the SB with the exception of Brady for the past 10 years. Brady and Warner are about it. That is 4 out of 10 I think. Most of the others have been bus drivers. Johnson, Dilfer, Roths certainly stank it up in the SB, And it could be argued that the first win by the Pats was more due to the rest of the team then Brady. In that game it was more a case of him not making mistakes then it was making big plays. And in that win they beat the current league MVP in Warner. He was the hot guy at that time, with the greatest show on turf, and it was more the Pats D that won that game. I give full credit to Brady in the other 2 wins as he did make some plays, but it was still usually the case of the Pats D making most of the big plays. You do not need an all world QB to win the SB anymore.

Leinart slid down to #10 BECAUSE scouts/coaches had some doubts. I was one of them. I questioned how good was he- and how much of his success was due to the TREMENDOUS edge in talent that surrounded him vs the teams playing against USC.

If Parcells retires, I think theres a good chance the new Head Coach brings a rookie QB in, probably first round. Coaches like to have "their guy," especially early.

i think the coaching plays more to making rivers look good than rivers does. They are using him well and callin plays that suit his experience.

So now the Boys are guilty of passing on those who were drafted before their pick. Brilliant.
