Ro suspension & Jack

The NFL usually gives teams a heads up prior to the draft of upcoming suspensions. If that was the case with Ro, it makes the choice of a redshirt LB, Jaylon Smith, over a healthy blue chip LB, Myles Jack (albeit one that might not get a second contract) even more disappointing.

If both are healthy I thought Jack was better than Jaylon. I thought Jack was very instinctive where Jaylon kind of waited a bit for plays to develop.

But since Jack probably won't make it to his 2nd contract and Jaylon looks like he'll recover and be in our plans long term. He was the better choice imo.

It would be nice to acquire some young talent at LB. Perhaps some good competition during training camp and this season. If Jaylon Smith doesn't come back until 2017 or later, we have to mitigate our risk at that position. Then again I'm just stating the obvious.

Jaylon Smith was a visionary pick never intended for this season. Get over it. Hitch will do for now. In the coming years you will be so glad Jaylon is on this team.

That's the difference in thinking short-term vs. long term, each comes at a cost for the other but long term pays better.

Jaylon Smith was drafted to be the MLB of the future. Ro getting suspended hasn't changed that.

McClain wasn't any sort of world-beater last year... He was OK.

Hitchens performance won't be that far off from McClains.

Not so sure about that. McClain is far better player than Hitchens even at 80%. Unfortunately he doesn't even have a 10 cent brain. I am done with him. Moving on.

McClain hasn't been a high performance guy in a while.

He wasn't trash, but he wasn't dominant like he was for stretches in 2014.

McClain is just inconsistent. One week, he will be okay and the other week, he will look like the best LB in the game. If I am remembering the game correctly, I remember seeing one of the more dominant performances by a MLB ever against the Dolphins from McClain. I credit him more for that win than Romo and I credit Sean Lee for the win week 2 so we won two games because of our linebackers.

The inconsistency links back to his work ethic. If Rolando McClain had a Sean Lee work ethic, I feel he would be one of, if not the best, LB to ever wear the star. Hitchens will be a solid, okay player, possibly more steady than McClain but will never have those dominant performances that McClain has every now and then.

Or Goodell and his good friend Mara could have kept it quiet and then put out the suspension. Thus hurting a division rival. Conspiracist theorists would love that idea.

I agree with your take on McClain.

well picked after J Smith

40 Reggie Ragland
87 Nick Vigil
88 Kyler Fackrell
102 Joshua Perry
113 Nick Kwiatkoski
125 Antonio Morrison

and I always liked Stephen Tulloch well we should have some insight with Linehan

he was always around the ball

depends on his knee

just as stop dap

I liked both Smith and Jack a lot. Smith simply has a lot more potential as a pass rusher, which might be what swayed Dallas to take him. The Cowboys pay a lot of attention to length in their defensive players and Smith has that much more than Jack.
