Caller: "The addition of George Pickens to the Cowboys team is single-handedly the reason the Cowboys will win the Super Bowl this season."
I immediately wondered if anyone, PIttsburgh or non-Pittsburgh fan, called into any sports talking head show and claimed George Pickens would be the single reason why the Steelers would win Super Bowl LVII when he was drafted.
There was a time when I made a similar proclamation, back when I was 17 and still a Philadelphia 76ers fan. Before that, I saw that club:
By that time, even as a kid, I knew Philadelphia was a center away. Darryl Dawkins was good and an intimidating dunker, but he was not dominant in the paint. Chocolate Thunder was an asset but he was never 'The One'.
Philly had Bobby and Caldwell Jones. Killers Maurice Cheeks and Andrew Toney. And, of course, THE DOCTOR Julius Erving. They were great but not enough. They were never enough.
Then the trade happen.
The Sixers got Moses Malone from Houston.
I still remember the day of the trade. I said 'championship'. Looking back, that was not hard to do. Basketball has a much smaller roster compared to football. The number of 'right pieces' is fewer by comparison.
Football is a different matter. There are far more working parts. I do not see what the caller saw, but we will all see how prophetic he was in the very near future.
/long rant

- go to The Finals
- lose in the conference finals
- lose in the conference semifinals
- GET BACK TO THE FINALS and lose
- lose in the conference finals
- get back to the freaking finals and lose
