Rob Gronkowski thinks Dallas has had one of the worst offseasons of all-time

Caller: "The addition of George Pickens to the Cowboys team is single-handedly the reason the Cowboys will win the Super Bowl this season."

I immediately wondered if anyone, PIttsburgh or non-Pittsburgh fan, called into any sports talking head show and claimed George Pickens would be the single reason why the Steelers would win Super Bowl LVII when he was drafted.

There was a time when I made a similar proclamation, back when I was 17 and still a Philadelphia 76ers fan. Before that, I saw that club:
  • go to The Finals
  • lose in the conference finals
  • lose in the conference semifinals
  • GET BACK TO THE FINALS and lose
  • lose in the conference finals
  • get back to the freaking finals and lose

By that time, even as a kid, I knew Philadelphia was a center away. Darryl Dawkins was good and an intimidating dunker, but he was not dominant in the paint. Chocolate Thunder was an asset but he was never 'The One'.

Philly had Bobby and Caldwell Jones. Killers Maurice Cheeks and Andrew Toney. And, of course, THE DOCTOR Julius Erving. They were great but not enough. They were never enough.

Then the trade happen.

The Sixers got Moses Malone from Houston.

I still remember the day of the trade. I said 'championship'. Looking back, that was not hard to do. Basketball has a much smaller roster compared to football. The number of 'right pieces' is fewer by comparison.

Football is a different matter. There are far more working parts. I do not see what the caller saw, but we will all see how prophetic he was in the very near future.

Who cares what this clown says. It will play out on the field. I would agree that the offseason was nothing special no matter how much Jerry hypes it up. Getting Pickens will help in 2025, after that it's a wasted draft pick. But this offseason is still infinitely better than last year.

a fair number of us hate the homers and Jethro apologists

but then i notice those like you are the ones always talking about hate
need to look in the mirror to really see it

as regards Gronk, I never thought he was very smart

That goes the other way as well.

Some of us are just sick of hyperbole.

not a surprise.
doesn't matter what the cowboys did or didn't do...he was never going to like it.
it takes no guts to be a critic.
they're a dime a dozen.

Gronkowski is part right. Pickens is not going to make the Cowboys an instant contender for the division. The off season the Cowboys had isn't as bad as last year's though. He's not the only NFL player that is just sick of the hype the Cowboys get year after year when they can't even win a playoff game.

No one should be talking Super Bowl so Gronk & Edelman are correct there.

They agreed Pickens should "help", which is the concensus as long as he doesn't go full mental.

They stated the Cowboys had other issues to address. That is correct.

The only thing that Gronk said that was wrong was about worst offseasons in history. He is obviously accustomed to organizations that try & doesn't fully understand our offseason mantra of "Nah Bro, we're good". So, for the Cowboys this qualifies as a phenominal offseason.

Moses Malone was a BAD MAN!!! "Fo, fo, fo" Mo.

Remember when they talked about Terr Bradshaw and said you would have to give them the C and the A to spell cat? You could also give Gronk the T and he would still get it wrong...would come out CTA. I don't really consider the opinion of people that are truly dumb...and he fits the profile.

He’s right about there being other problems with the team. As soon as we traded for Pickens some fans started talking SB like he’s going to put us over the top. He’ll help our passing game but we don’t have a proven back and our DL is suspect.
And QB played like trash last year. What can we expect after the "Injury"

We all agreed with him until the Pickens trade.
The Pickens trade was a solid move but alot of us know hes thrown mostly busts and Jags at the rest of the deficiencies.

Takes more than just 1 WR to fix the anemic run game and porous defense.....rookies are unknown and untested in counting on them

Actually seemed like a pretty strong offseason. Of course there are things to criticize, and we didn't fill every position as would be ideal, but that's always the case, including with teams other than the Cowboys. But ...

* Draft grades were strong
* Pickens gives us 2 #1 quality WRs
* The pass rush is no longer so heavily dependent on Parsons now that we drafted who most feel was the 2nd best edge rusher in the draft and signed Fowler who had 10.5 sacks for Washington last year
* We drafted to fill the void after Zack Martin retired.
* We got the fastest RB in the draft to go with 2 larger veteran RB's. Mafah could also come into play. Not saying RB is a strength - remains to be seen and all of them have a lot to prove, but there are reasons for hope of at least a solid running game.
* Realistically interior DL is still the concern they didn't do much to address, but overall I'm pretty upbeat about the offseason.
* Let's also keep in mind that Gronk, while a great football player, is not the brightest bulb on the tree.

Cheeks, Erving, Jones, Malone…if 80% of the Cowboys starting lineup were future hall of famers they’d be going to the next Super Bowl. That said, who cares what Gronk says? He has no idea what the Cowboys are putting together.
