I read about the Cowboys interest in Rob Ryan but was curious for anyone that knows "Was he all that Great in Cleveland?" I guess nothing hes done has stuck out to me.

Dont let the stats fool you, he is a good DC. The fact is that he had a bunch of scrubs to work with so he did the best he could with what he had.

For anybody that thinks the stats are the end all be all, go check out where Caper's defenses ranked his last couple of years in Carolina, his entire tenure with the Texans, and how he did in 2007 when he was DC for the 1-15 Dolphins.

When Capers has talent to work with (see Green Bay), he does great. When Capers had scrubs to work with, his defense has totally sucked.

So keep in mind that just because Ryan's stats are not that great in Oakland and Clevland, he has not had much to work with overall, kinda like Capers in Carolina, Houston, and Miami.

All the Ryan's are loose canoons. The sons get their narcissism from their father. Yes they are talented defensive coaches, much like T.O. was a talented WR. But in the end that's what they are - the coaching versions of T.O., because like T.O. they never really buy into a team concept, put themselves above everything else, and will always undermine the long-term health of the team.

what a moron.

We play at the jets next year. The last thing we need is a sideshow like this.

Joe avezzano already said he is crazier than rex.

I cant stand those two twin idiots.

I know the Steelers think Cleveland has the most complex defense. Apparently, Rob likes to change things up alot.

I know you can't judge a guy by one game, but Cleveland and Ryan's defense beat up on the Patriots this year, 34-14.

He is the antithesis of Garrett. I don't know how they would possibly get along.

I am only worried if he and Jason can work together with the understanding that Jason is the HC and deserves the respect of the title.

As far as talking to the press and saying odd ball things to the press. That situation is easily fixed. Just don't allow the other coaches to speak to the press with out the HCs permission.

Also...I don't know if Joe has room to talk as he was kind of crazy himself and he was constantly giving away info to the press by being a motormouth. But maybe in some way that gives Joe more credit to talk about it.

Who knows.

I guess if Jason thinks they can work together, I Jason is serious in considering hiring him as a DC...I figure he thinks he can handle it.
Another thing to consider. Just because it is reported that he is being brought in to interview as a DC...does not mean he will be the DC here. He might not ever get the gig. He might be interviewed and asked to take a position job if he can not find a DC or HC job elsewhere. He might be brought in just to pick his brain on some defensive areas.

Too many people get worked up and bent out of shape about something like it has already happened and he is the next DC.

Not claiming you are doing that, just saying we have seen it already in various threads about this coach or that coach and people's reaction to them.

The funny thing is a lot of opposing fans have a respect for Garrett, this would change all of that completely.

I could easily see a coach like him dividing the locker room...Don't need the distraction

He wasn't bad. Did some smart things. I think his brother is much better. I think if he were hired, I think we'd have a better situation with picking our personnel then he had in Oakland and Cleveland.

One thing you have to remember about Cleveland was their defense was awful in 2009. They then had to rely on 2 rookies in Joe Haden (7 INT's this year) and TJ Ward to take over the secondary.

I think he was the first guy who figured out the Saints offense to a degree. He started to sort of spy a D-Linemen which would take away Brees' checkdowns and it worked brilliantly. The rest of the league followed suit.

There's other guys at D-C I would prefer, but I wouldn't have an issue with hiring the guy and I don't believe the son should pay for the sins of the father.

How would he divide the lockerroom, he isnt freaking TO saying Romo and Witten are drawing up secret plays in the dirt.

He would be hired to coach the defense, so how exactly is that going to divide the team? What will divide the team faster than anything is if the defense continues to freaking suck while the offense is top 10.

How loose of a cannon can he be here though? The Cowboys will have Garrett and Tony give press conferences. Rob would be behind the scenes here.

I think he's certainly creative enough. Perhaps is ideas aren't easily implemented bceause he has a defense with 9 scrubs.

His defenses have not been top in the league. But you gotta wonder whether that's a personnel thing or a Rob Ryan thing. On certain days, his defenses appear to confuse and beat the hell out of top offenses (ie Patriots this year).

Not with the Dallas media. They will poke and prod and push someone until they get a controversy.

How exactly does one field a "great" defense when your best players are Chris Gocong, Kenyon Coleman and Matt Roth? Switch those guys with Ngata, Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs and Ed Reed, and we'll see which one is the "smart" brother.

He held Brady and Brees to their worst games of the season after implementing an "amoeba" defense which I heard Ron Jawarski claim he's never seen anything like in over 30 years of breaking down NFL film. You don't find that stuff in the stat listing.

If they hire Ryan if i were Red i would make it so that the only coach that can talk to the media is the head coach. Did Parcells do this? I thought he did. I would do whatever i could to keep him away from the cameras.
