Since Ryan first became DC in Dallas, fans have feared and planned for him leaving to take HC position. I don't think fans have to worry any longer. Thoughts?

I think he's overhyped but I also think the players he has to work with at this point are subpar, overall.

Rat, Lee, Carter...those were big losses.

I honestly don't get what is going on with this guy this year. I thought he was brought in to implement new and exotic blitz packages and play an "aggressive" 3-4.

We blitz much less than the league average, and have absolutely laid off rookie QBs this season which makes absolutely no sense to me.

I get that the Safeties are injured, but you have a ton of money and picks invested in the CBs. Why are we consistently laying off rookies and rushing 3 on 3rd down to sit in a soft zone?

I've been upset with his results but remember we were a top 5 defense before he lost Lee, Carter and Ratliff. Hard to lose 3 pro bowl caliber players and still be dominant/aggressive.

I think he'll stay unless Garrett wants to go to a 4-3

I don't think he'd make a good HC just my opinon but I just think the Ryan family should just stick with what they know.

Furthermore, on the whole, I don't like total defensive guys that can't handle the QB as the head man.

If you told me before the season that we lost

Sean Lee
Bruce Carter
Kenyon Coleman
Ratliff
Church
Churchs replacement
random combination of Mike Jenkins and Scandrick

I wouldve expected worse results to be honest.

I don't see other teams breaking down his door to be their hc either. Good coach but overated.

I agree that there need not be much fear about losing him to another team as a HC. He just doesn't handle the media very well and says a lot of dumb things. He doesn't have a HC demeanor on the sideline during games and loses his cool a lot. His resume in terms of having top defenses is basically non-existent.

However, I think the biggest blow is how badly his brother's team has fallen apart. NFL teams love to copy success. So if one twin is having great success as a HC than someone will think that his identical twin who is also a DC probably would too if given the chance.

He is going to have to put out some top defenses before he will be considered, IMO.

I think this is key here. We've lost some good players this season so performance will drop. I like Ryan, and would like to see him stay, but I won't sweat it if he leaves. Assistant coaches move on all the time, and if he does leave, I imagine the Cowboys won't have a very difficult time replacing him with someone as good, if not better, especially with the talent this defense has.

I wouldn't have a problem making a change there in the offseason. A little overrated and I just can't trust them to make a stop in a big situation.

defense looked awful most of the night, but that forced fumble was special.

also, why do we drop so many picks?

We lost Carter and Scandrick in the 2nd half last week, its not like they haven't been playing all year, Rat played 6 games and Church is only marginally better than McCray anyway. Coleman's a JAG.

Lee is the only true impact loss on the defense to this point this year.

This is a very good point, but when they were healthy it was dissapointing.

I brought these same points up early this year and was blasted by posters. I am not a Rob fan in the least and I think he should be fired even if Garrett stays. His gameplans have totally flopped in several games against some not-so-great offenses. His complicated defense is no more effective than Wade's simple defense and it is much harder for the players to learn. No more excuses, doughboy needs to go.

Have to upgrade on the DLine for sure. Ratliff is too fragile now...too much wear and tear over the years. He shouldn't be expected to be a true starter at this point because he will be due to miss a handful of games every year.

I think Ryan with the full compliment of players is a pretty good coordinator however the great ones find schemes that will work regardless.

You won't catch me complaining when Rob puts his big, fat rear end into another team's dressing room.

That said, and I may be the biggest Ryan-hater on the site, I don't think *anybody* can reasonably blame him for the state of the defense right now.

I don't think Rob Ryan's the problem.

Guys missing tackles, guy blowing coverages, guys dropping GIFT INTs, lack of turnovers, inconsistant pass rush, penalties/dumb mistakes: these were and have been problems in Dallas even before Rob came on board.

It's the players. Lots of talented individuals...not great as a unit for some reason.

Rob can get too cute with swaping players and have too many men penalties. He should know better.
