Considering what he has had to overcome injury-wise, and STILL has a top 10 D and us in a position to make the playoffs, is nothing short of remarkable. Soooooo.....do we lose him after this year??

I have to say he's been decent. And no he won't get a hc gig, he'll be here next season.

The facts:

Dallas is ranked 14th defensively (by yardage)

Dallas is ranked 21st defensively (by points allowed)

Dallas is ranked in the bottom 3rd in the league in pass coverage (allowing an opposing QB rating of 93.5)

Dallas has already allowed 1600+ yards rushing and the team is being gashed for 4.5 yard per carry

IMHO, I have seen nothing from Ryan that makes me think he is anything but a middle of the road defensive coordinator. He doesn't suck, but I he doesn't seem particularly innovative either.

Despite the injuries, I can't see any non-homer way of ranking his performance as a DC as anything but "ok".

A few teams will approach him about a head coaching job. I really hope we do whatever it takes to keep him. Even if that means a large bump in salary. The chemistry is developing, the scheme is coming together, and with the return of Lee and Carter next year, I'd hate to see everyone have to learn an entirely new system all over again.

Exactly how I feel. People are acting like our defense is playin well, they're not playin that well.

Defense wasn't even that good when we were healthy. I don't like Ryan at all.

Despite the injuries? So it's ok to judge a D-Coordinator that is coaching without his two best inside linebackers, his best safety, last game without his best corner, one of his best d-linemen, our best pass rusher playing injured? I think Rob Ryan has done an OUTSTANDING job with this defense, and I really hope they resign him next season. When everyone was healthy, we had THE best defense in the game. Oh, and who won that game for us yesterday? Our defense.

Another VERY damning defensive indicator for Ryan's defenses -- rookie QBs have tore them up:

Russell Wilson: 112.7 QB rating
Brandon Weeden: 93.8 QB rating
Robert Griffin: 131.8 QB rating
Nick Foles (2nd game): 96.6 QB rating

So about a 108 average opposing QB rating for rookie QBs against the Cowboys pass defense.

Certainly nothing to write home about.

Look at the safeties we have had out there, forcing us to rush only three. Danny McCray? Frampton? Peprah? Would have been different with Barry Church healthy. Now the Seattle game I will give you, because we had Church that game if I believe correctly. But we went down 10-0 quick IN Seattle, and it's almost impossible to comeback against them at their home.

Yes, our defense is far from dominating. One might even argue that they are mediocre at best. However, they continue to play well down the stretch (outside of the Skins game) while fielding the 3rd string NT, 2nd string DE, 3rd string and backup ILB, #4 CB, off the street CB and special teamer from LSU at Safety. This has also been done with the Pro Bowl NT missing most of the year and the top defensive player playing injured the last several weeks.

With all that said, this has probably been our best team defense since the 2009 season despite all the backups playing.

It also seems that even though we have all these new parts there have been less major defensive breakdowns than last year when we were healthy for most of the year.

I agree completely he has been nothing short of remarkable with all the injuries. People act as thought it's his fault many of our best players on D got injured for the season. I sure hope we keep him, the players are really starting to show how good they can be in this scheme.

Lots of teams have injuries -- it's part of the game. Yes, the Cowboys have been harder than most, however, I don't think the statistics lie.

Pass defense is currently ranked 26th in the league -- which is less than last season.

Rush defense isn't doing well either.

What can be said is they are doing a good job of bending but not breaking -- there is something to be said for that.

I'll stand by my opinion -- I don't think Ryan sucks -- I just don't think he has done anything particularly great in his two years in Dallas -- especially considering the talent level.

This defense was never the best in the league. And even when they were statistically performing well, they still weren't as good as advertised. Ryan blows. He's doing a decent job of having these scrubs play below average as opposed to the worst defense in the league

compared to how it used to be, id say this year has been a much improved team, and hes using paper and glue to hold it together while so many are in IR.

this is a bend, but dont break defense minus 1 or 2 games.

I wouldn't say he blows. I'd say he is wonderfully average. Basically like he has been for every other team he has been a DC coordinator for.

When you add up his mediocrity + the fact that he comes across a loud mouth buffoon - I don't think the Cowboys have to worry about losing him to a head coaching position any time soon.

It's almost feeling kind of like the Saints when they won the SB. No, I'm not believing it, but they are starting to get sacks at the right time, and takeovers.

Scrappy, guys off the couch, big plays. I'm liking it and Spencer is leading. ;)

And most important of all his def guys love him. I say he's back no problem.

Actually in the beginning of the season, the first four games or so, we were rated the best D in the the league. Then we lose church, lee, ratliff, carter, etc.... I agree with you that we have had some rough spots this season, but their is no quit in these guys, even if a lot of them are 2nd and 3rd stringers, guys we basically pulled off
The street. And to say Rob Ryan flat out blows is ridiculous IMO, but to each their own friend. players love him, and.never quit on him. I sure as hell hope he stays.

No, because the shine is off the Ryan family with Rex's failings in New York ... along with Rob's lack of self-control in a crucial situation against Cincinnati last week. That's a lasting image for owners/GMs.

Rob Ryan does deserve some credit. This is a rag-tag unit that should have had us out of the playoff picture weeks ago. Instead, we're still in this thing. Rob Ryan's schemes can be infuriating at times, what with the lack of pressure and rushing 3 so often, but this defense has come up big when we absolutely needed it to. Complete oposite of last year.

It's not so much the numbers I worry about. It's his performance and he has been performing fine. It's hard to say if he'll get a HC gig. I'd say probably not, but he's a worthy candidate, even for us.

But, yeah, give the guy some credit.
