Players based on Ryan's playing experience that I think we might go after. Being that they have talent and might fit into what we are doing.

CB, Nnamdi Asomugha, this seems like a sure thing in my mind.
S, Michael Huff, we might not get him, but i almost guarantee we take a look
DL, Shaun Rogers (assuming he gets released because of his contract)
ILB, Chris Gocong (not really sure if he would be an upgrade really)

Obviously that is defensively from the raiders, but defensive coaches also see offensive players and how good they are. i guess its a bit of a stretch but I would be really interested in Robert Gallery at the right price.

Assuming we basically swapped Asomugha for Newman, added Michael Huff and got Shaun Rogers. The following positions would still need "fixing", S (Don't see keeping either Sensabaugh or Ball). And I think that would be it.

Jenkins - Free Safety - Huff - Asomugha (scandrick :/ )
Ware - James :)/) - Lee - Spencer
Rogers - Brent - Ratliff (or whatever mix makes more sense to you)

I think thats a really good defense, depending on who we could afford to get at free safety.

my vision for the offensive line would be

free - mankins - gurode :)/) - Gallery - Free Agent/Draft/Young

Thats between 5 and 7 free agent signings in a 6-10 year. I see Asomugha as more of a swap. Huff is also more of a swap. And I dont think anyone is looking to keep either Davis or Colombo. I think Gallery would be more in Kosiers price range, and mankins is a swap for davis much like Asomugha for newman (with cap penalties applying).

Sensabaugh is a free agent. sign Huff instead.
Kosier is a free agent, sign Gallery instead.

As in politics my plan to pay for all of this comes from cutting...

Roy Williams and Marion Barber. Newman pays for Asomugha (maybe not with the cap penalties), Davis pays for Mankins (again maybe not with cap penalties).

I don't know if Rogers will be released, or even if he is healthy. But on paper he is a huge upgrade to our line compared to Olshansky.

No way we can afford NA, Huff, Gallery, Rodgers. Loyalty to a coach goes only so far. All of those guys will want paid. This may be NA and Rodgers last contract, so money comes before loyalty.

If we get anyone it would only be NA.....and I really doubt that is going to happen.

No way is Jenkins going to play safety. The guy is afraid to tackle.

I would be happy to just get Huff out of this deal. In my opinion I think the Raiders will end up taking care of Nnamdi Asomugha, yes his contract is up and he is a FA but I think the Raiders will step up and take care of him in doing so the likelihood of Huff being let go is greater.

Is there a cap hit for cutting Newman?

Yes, great scott.

People - say it with me. Terence Newman is not going anywhere.

If he doesn't rework his deal Jerry will cut him faster than you can say Flozell Adams.

He won't see that money.

I don't know if he will be back or not. I'm not rooting against Newman but frankly I do think we will see some changes given his cost I don't think it is out of the question.

Yeah I've been a fan of Newman and think he's way underrated on this board but I don't see any way that he's brought back under his current salary next year. It just doesn't make any financial sense, he's a slightly better than average player, but he's getting paid like an elite player.

Al Davis said yesterday if Asomugha wasn't a free agent they would have cut him because his contract wasn't worth his play.

I'd also throw in Derrick Burgess, who Ryan got way more out of than Belichick or Jim Johnson did. He's too old to be an every down player, but you could get him as a nickel pass rush specialist and make Spencer a 2 down player and you could probably get him for around vet minimum.

Chis Gocong was a college DE, so I doubt he fills our nickel LB need. As far as that list guys, I'd be very happy to land Michael Huff.

I seriously doubt they wrote that clause in his contract so he could decide to go back.

He will go somewhere for top dollar and I don't think Jerry or Al will be signing the check.

When he's healthy and playing man coverage you couldn't really ask for a better corner.

When hes gimpy and playing zone... Oh boy.

That said.. He's 33.. We're all assuming Jenkins will bounce back.. Scandrick is what he is...

Asomugha is available... I think if it doesn't get to pricey he will be the logical person to bring in.

Ryan will make a monster out of Spencer or bust. There will be no inbetween IMO.
