Rob Should Be Brought Back

That will only happen if 7-8 players are gone but that's not realistic. In fact, we know #32 and #43 will be back and probably starting so we're already behind the curve there. One new CB in FA or the draft won't change the fact that we've got those 2 knuckleheads screwing up coverages or taking poor angles. We just have to live with it. The best thing we can hope for is that we get a new pass rusher to replace Spencer and someone new on the DLine that can get enough pressure to make up for this horrible secondary that can't seem to get anything right.

It's pathetic. Good defenses have secondaries that can bait QBs into mistakes and throwing interceptions. Our secondary is so bad that we'll never be able to do anything like that because they can't even master basic stuff. Very depressing

I said this another thread, but the Cowboys are ranked #10 in the league in points allowed which is without question the most important defensive stat. Last season we were ranked second to last. That's pretty damn impressive to improve that much without any major additions. Sure our defense has looked poor at times particularly in the 1st Eagles game and Giants game, but overall they're much better than last season. If we can add a pass rusher opposite Ware and a legit #2 corner to go with Jenkins there's no doubt we can be a top 5 defense next season. Rob Ryan should be brought back no if, ands, or buts about it.

I think people tend to forget this...plug a few holes (secondary for sure), and I think we'll be a LOT better. I think Ryan should be brought back too. A full off-season will help this defense immensely.

A full offseason and bring in more players can really help us, what defensive free agents are available?

Do you guys think it's the scheme (which is supposed to be quite complicated) or the players that are our problem.

While i understand it was probably hard for our players to learn the scheme on such a short offseason.. i don't think there's any doubt we just have a team of dumb players. The fact that we were 10th in the league in points allowed while playing against such stacked offenses all year is a small miracle. When you are a couple games from the end of the season and trying to push for a playoff spot and you are talking about having to "dumb down" your defense so the players know what the hell they are doing.. its pretty sad.

I really expected more from Ryan this season, our defense just seems totally lost out there.

Garrett and Ryan should both be on the hot seat next year if Jerry insist on keeping both of them.

Pretty much.

Time to start paying greater attention to Wonderlic scores.

Any player who can't grasp the playbook at this point shouldn't be playing.

I'd like to give him SOMETHING to work with before shipping him out of town. He has squat to work with. The secondary is a nightmare.

we are not going to fix everything magically next year, there are lot of holes on the defense to change in one year.one thing we can do is fix the line and improve our pass rush and get rid of newman.the offense has a chance to get back on track by switching our tackles and get a elite guard in FA or the draft,Kowalski might be ready to take over from Costa too.

Remember the "this is the same defense as 2009, so there is no reason we cant dominate with this squad under Ryan?" argument, I do.

Again, not Ryan's fault that he has a bunch of dumb players to work with.

This is exactly my point. Considering the holes the defense has like no pass rusher opposite Ware, mediocre defensive line play, very little speed at middle linebacker, and obviously a poor secondary. Considering all that and for them to be ranked #10 in points is allowed VERY impressive.

The Cowboys played a last place schedule. They held 7 non-playoff teams to less than 20 points:

Washington (5-11)
St. Louis (2-14)
Seattle (7-9)
Buffalo (6-10)
Miami (6-10)
Arizona (8-8)
Tampa (4-12)

Just how impressive is that?

We also played some of the most high powered offenses in the league this year too. Philly twice, Pats, Detroit, NY twice, even Buffalo.

That we were 10th in points allowed with the group we had on D is pretty impressive.

keep rob, get rid of campo, new seconday coach, churn the cornerback and safety spots hard in the offseason

I agree. Rob Ryan was a colossal disappointment. This defense wasn't any better at the end of the year than it was in the beginnng. You can say all you want about not having "his kind of players", etc. but our defense was not good.

I agree that Rob should be brought back. The players are terrible, not his scheme.

BTW.. Seattle put up over 30 points against Philly's D. Arizona put up 27 points on the Ravens D. Miami put up 31 on the Chiefs D. Buffalo put up 41 on the Chiefs D, and 31 against Philly's D.

All these defenses are ranked higher than us.

When you have to dumb down your scheme for your stupid players to be able to even grasp it.. really says alot about the players on the field. We can't grade Ryan's ability because the players we currently have weren't even smart enough to be able to grasp his concepts let alone execute them.

"...a team of dumb players." how did this come to be? the players degraded to this level by the absence of accountability.
