Robert Brewster & the PUP

The Cowboys put Robert Brewster on the PUP list in pre-season. By doing so they had 6 weeks that he must sit out. That does not include the bye week.

After week 6 the Cowboys have 3 weeks to get him practicing with the team.

Once the player starts practicing the Cowboys can have 3 more weeks to get him on the active roster. If they don't, he goes on PUP for the whole year, which is basically the same as IR.

What does this mean?

After the Atlanta game the Cowboys have 3 weeks to get Brewster involved in practices with the team.

That puts them to the Green Bay game. After the Green Bay game the Cowboys have 3 more weeks to activate him.

That means by the 2nd Giants game he either has to be activated or is gone for the whole year.

The Cowboys can get him practicing any time after Atlanta and activate him any time after Atlanta, but they have the extra 3 and 3 weeks if they choose to use them.

News about injured players is scarce, but I'd like to know how Robert Brewster is progressing.

I know Wade Phillips is a softie when talking about players, but it piqued my interest when he said Brewster "is going to be aplayer" without hesitation when announcing the move to PUP.

There were able to place Robert Brewster on PUP because he tore his pec before training camp started during a late off-season workout.

It's probably a longshot that Brewster will become active, but there was no reason not to give him the chance.

The added bonus was it allowed Pat McQuistan to move inside to guard, which I have no doubt is his best NFL position.

Now McQ is an inactive tackle and likely to get churned during the off-season or training camp next year.

It wouldn't be a big loss, but I just wanted to see him sink or swim at guard. The coaching staff serious toyed with moving him there for a couple of years in an attempt to get their five best linemen together on the field.

IF Brewster can go, who gets the cut? Especially if Rossum works out as the big ST threat they are hoping for?

Roster is tight! :nervous:

Wow, an actual thread about a football topic? Thanks, Hos.

Does anyone suspect we just want give him those five or six weeks of practice so he has a little experience in what the regular season routine is like? I can't imagine he can actually play this year.

But even if it's only to get him acclimated to things for next year, I think it's a great idea.

In the unlikely event we do activate Robert Brewster this season, the most likely candidate right now would be Duke Preston.

Corey Procter's role on kickoff return has helped save a roster spot, but it probably wouldn't be too hard to use someone else there if we liked Preston better as a player. Pat McQuistan filled that role the previous two seasons and he could do it again or we might see fit to release him.

What have the other threads been about? If threads aren't about football don't they get moved to another forum?

Slate, are you still haunted by ghosts of offensive line busts in drafts past? :D

I know it wouldn't take much to unseat Pat McQuistan as the reserve right tackle, but Robert Brewster walked right in out of a passing offense at Ball State and immediately took up residence in Marc Colombo's shadow.

That doesn't harken memories of James Marten, Jacob Rogers or Stephen Peterman.

I really got the impression they like Brewster.

Slate had never heard of Brewster when we drafted him, so he automatically decided Brewster sucked.

No, our past drafting of O-linemen makes me automatically decide that he sucks. I have no reason to believe he'll be good. They are JAGS until proven legit.

Excuse me...

:puke:

I don't know if Doug Free will ever get a chance to start or not. With Flozell Adams obviously nearing the end of the line, we may finally invest a first round selection in procuring our next left tackle.

But Free looks like he can play in the league, though we won't know for sure unless he can get on the field at some point.

Thanks CL. I should try this more often. Might change the mood around here.

I'd like to see him be able to comeback this season and help out in some form. That would be very nice.

I think this guy is different. He might actually see significant playing time NOT due to someone else getting hurt, but by earning his way into the lineup. If he didn't have that ability, the teamed would have shelved him by now.
