I usually don't comment on guys coming out of college, but this guy is going to be something when he gets to the NFL. I really believe that.

He has ever really made audibles and read the defense, all these things you have to be able to do in the pros.
Now, don't get me wrong here, it's not like he can't do these things, I just haven't seen him do it on a regular basis. With time to learn and develop he might be able to do all these things. What I have read about the guy, he is a smart person, works hard, and wants to keep getting better, which is something Vince Young didn't have.
My verdict on Griffen is still out, I'm going to wait until the end of the season to release my final verdict. I like him, I like watching him play, he is a fun play to watch, but not 100% sold on him.
If Garrett and the coaching staff and the scouts really like him and think he can develop into a starting QB in a few years, then right now its fine by me with a pick in the 2nd.

Plus his INT was right to the guy
could not have thrown a prettier INT

He's making a case for himself to be the #1 overall pick this year.
supercowboy8;4164745 said:I think you need to go back and watch some Vince Young Texas highlights or games. Griffen usually just throws it long to a open WR or dumps it off. Hardley ever see him make that tight in the window pass or the on the rope with some zip pass.
Griffen will not be #1 overall, write it down now.

Had to comment on this... I guess you've missed all those 20 yard post/slant patterns that are dead on the money with plenty of velocity. Those are absolutely NFL throws. Some spread offenses are all bubble screens and dumpoffs, but Griffin does more than that.Right now the scheme is like a west coast scheme. Dump off safe passes and long bombs. Very few passes are at the second level in traffic.

Chocolate Lab;4165398 said:I do, too. I wouldn't have said that a year or two ago, but he's improved his passing immensely. He already throws the ball at least as well as Cam Newton IMO.
Plus, he has top-notch intangibles and character.
I think people will be surprised at how high he's drafted.

casmith07;4165556 said:Pretty much this. And he throws his guys to a spot, as I said before. He's not throwing to open guys, but throwing to gaps where the WRs are supposed to go.
That's called reading a defense.
realtick;4166253 said:Seriously, this thread is hilarious and will be fun to look at a couple years from now. There are two or three 6' 1-2"ish 190+ lb QB that can run/pass in college every single season. Griffin is having a fantastic start to his college season, but I have yet to see any reason that he has the requisite skills to be a starting caliber QB in the NFL, let alone be a Top 5-10 pick as some here are supposing.
joseephuss;4166529 said:No one is really talking about the bonus he brings to the field with his ability to run. He is a passer first and foremost. He started his college career as a decent passer and he keeps getting better. I don't know where he will end up being drafted, but I think he has the tools needed to become a starter in the NFL.
he'll probably be the Governor of Texas and President one day, I'm only being mildly facetiousness, he's bright.Picksix;4169638 said:Watching the Baylor/ISU game right now, and they showed a clip of RGIII talking about starting law school in the Fall. Might not even be coming out this year. I will say this. He alread has his Bachelor's, will have his Master's at the end of this year, and might start law school next Fall. I think this kid can do just about anything he sets his mind to.

Well then you neglect the recent past with Elway, Young and to a lesser extent Favre and Montana, the scrambling threat was a huge part of their game.realtick;4169760 said:I don't speak on it because it's not a huge bonus to me. This is a passing league; the best QBs in this league are known for the elite passing aspect of their game. There is an anamoly in Mike Vick, but I don't even consider him an elite QB. The bottomline in this league is that you have to be able to move the ball through the air against complex defensive schemes, through tight windows, with pinpoint accuracy and uncanny anticipation, against supreme athletes in the secondary.
RG3 is an interesting prospect having a tremendous year thus far. However, having seen him play, I'm highly skeptical of how his game translates to the pro game. It's it's not just the fact he plays in spread offense, is a bit of a scrambler, et cetera. I could show you highlights of Graham Harrell a few years ago that would have you thinking he's a surefire future HOF at the next level.
