First, It would cost a fortunate to sign him (30 M in 5 years). Secondly, why do we need him if Zimmer/BP just wants him to stop the run and play it safe?

Why would we do this?

We have Ellis there. And behind him we have Carpenter. Moreover, there will exceptional draft prospects like Anthony Spencer out there who would be perfect for that position.

Why would we blow the bank on a DE to go through the same thing we went through with Ellis?

Are you thinking we should cut Ellis and completely write off Carpenter?

if we go after a lb or de to turn to lb in FA i say we go after robert mathis. If we can turn ellis into a olb we can turn robert mathis into a lb. Robert mathis is alot faster and better in space than greg ellis and he can rush the passer pretty well. evidence in sacks he has....well what do everybody else thanks..and yes i kno bobby carpenter played a good game when we played atl. but if we find out these last to games and in the playoffs that we need another lb to generate pressure like ware does it might be robert mathis. that might better than spending another 1st round draft pick on a lb...if he is a FA after this season. thoughts?
welcome to the internet! the colts re-signed mathis to a 5 year, 30 million dollar contract (12 million guaranteed) in march

if we did cut Ellis, which i wouldnt be surprised... I dont think his "success" was even that great at OLB

id rather get Adalius Thomas than Mathis

indy turns there pass rushers loose with no responsiblilty but get the qb.looks good for the stat sheeet but has'nt won them alot of playoff games. in the playoffs you have to stop the run, thus indy will be home watching the super bowl again this year.the only guy i can think of who might hit the market worth what he would take to get is thomas. i love ellis and want to see him back but for thomas i would get over it.

good point. i just looked myself. i just assumed that if someone was talking about us signing him they had checked to see if he was a free agents. i gues that proves what they say about assuming.
