Ole Miss standout defensive tackle
Robert Nkemdiche is recovering from Sunday's
fall out of a fourth-story hotel window, but as more details emerge from the strange event involving Atlanta police, a disturbing trend
in college athletics has come to the forefront — the use of spice, or synthetic marijuana.
Sources have told
Fox Sports' Clay Travis that Nkemdiche is believed to have used "synthetic cannabinoids" before falling and wasn't in his right mind during the ordeal. A popular recreational drug at
college parties and notably among athletes since it doesn't show up in
drug tests, synthethic marijuana has harmful effects and can lead to hallucinations, paranoia and delusion.
The same substance is believed to be the culprit in last month's unfortunate
episode involving Nkemdiche's brother, Denzel, who was reportedly rushed to an Oxford hospital after he was found in bad shape with the belief someone was after him.
According to the report from Fox Sports, Robert Nkemdiche was unable to provide his name or address on Sunday after his 15-foot fall. He suffered only minor lacerations after falling on a bush. Nkemdiche was charged with marijuana possession, but the investigation is still ongoing according to police.
