Rock music is dead!

I went to see Kiss in the '80s just because they played down the road from my apt. It was 20 years later before I admitted it to any of my buds I grew up with and they still laughed at me.

I can remember very clearly as a kid calling the radio station and requesting KISS. I was basically laughed out of the room because they didn't consider them actual music nor musicians.

Pop has about killed country. Way too many pop influences in country now.

Agreed 100%
When l listen to current country artists I am hearing a small bit of country mixed in with some pop then a fiddle solo thrown in to seem credible. Most of it stinks

You're listening to the wrong "country" artists.

Try Googling "alt-country" and "red dirt country". You can thank me later.

I'll check it out. I go to satellite radio when I need a real country fix. George Jones. Cash. King George.

Almost all new country artists are pop. I don't like that although I may like a song here & there.

And thanks!

Try streaming KHYI, 95.3 The Range sometime. They're a local, independent station here in Dallas, that's been around since 96. Household names like Pat Green, Jack Ingram etc credit them for playing their music when most others wouldn't/didn't.

I remember in a quite old interview with Frank Zappa, someone asked him if memory serves correctly about the current at the time state of jazz music. He replied "jazz isn't dead it just smells funny".

Rock is in a weird place right now. Popular music in general isn't very good to my ears these days. QotSA are currently the best rock band imo.

This. Classic country always sounds good to.

Glad Tool was mentioned. Really hope to hear something from them soon. Have always thought of them as a next-gen Pink Floyd.

Surprised the Foo Fighters haven't been mentioned.

One thing I've noticed is that the classic rock bands that are still in the business don't really have an outlet anymore. Tom Petty's new CD is really good, but if you're not a Sirius subscriber, I don't know that you ever hear it. The local classic rock stations in my area don't play it. Sirius dedicated a channel to him upon release since he has a relationship with his Buried Treasure show. If you haven't heard it, give it a listen.

Thanks for the info. I was a HUGE Tom Petty fan back in the day. We saw him in concert (along with the Del Fuegos and Georgia Satellites) the night after I graduated from high school back in '87. Awesome night. I had no idea he was still making music. His band has suffered some tragedies.

Got to give major props to Dave Grohl for carrying on in such a magnificent way after Cobain's death, although it did take him a couple of years to crawl up out of his depression, understandably. The Foo Fighters are arguably as great as Nirvana was, a bit of a sway in style, but man they are so good, some would say they are actually better. I will not make that comparison myself, as I loved Nirvana and the styles are too different. I watched a 2 hour show on him on some channel one night, VH1 or something, and it was the best rock documentary I think I have ever seen. I recommend it to everyone.

Loretty and Patsy! Hard to beat in the heart of country, eh? That's real country. I did always like The Judds. They were country when they started out, although they kind of even started throwing in some extras toward the end. Love Can Build A Bridge is beautiful, but not really country like Grandpa or Mama He's Crazy was.

I have to say that Toby Keith, although not very traditional like Alan Jackson and George Strait, can still make some awesome music. A sillier song by him, but one I dearly love is kind of new, last year or two, Red Solo Cup. Would never make it into the classic country category, but so worth a good listen or three. lol. Especially when you are nursing your own "cup", or bottle as the case may be. lol

For the wilder country crowd, I highly recommend the more daring Country Rap category. Awesome beats mixed with country lifestyle, it really is very good. Georgia Boyz "Can't See My Paintjob", "Ridin' High", f-ing A Awesome. The Lacks are really good, too. Even my husband likes them. lol

Now back to the topic at hand. Didn't mean to bogart.

I'm sorry, but I have to post this. Have been trying to keep my mind away from today, but I cannot. I am posting these videos as a tribute to my brother, who died this morning. Luckily beer is a great pain killer. Or so they say. He is nine years older than me, and when I was a little girl back in the 70's, he and his teen band were always playing these songs. He was so awesome on the guitar. Truly a natural. Didn't need to learn sheet music, he could read the music with his ears and his soul. I used to go with him to his guitar lessons, but the wacky lady guitar teacher kicked him out, because he wanted to play his own original music and the music of the day (aka classic rock today), but she wanted him to stick to his g and f chords and her lame one string songs. He was way better than she was, even at the age of 15! I was never so proud of him when he basically told her to get f**. lol. Anyway, 30 some odd years and some chemical substances later, and here we are today. We have been estranged these last few years, but my god how much I love him, and our younger days were so awesome, he was my protector and my mentor and my hero and I thought he was the coolest dude in the world. And back in the 70's, he was. He WAS the coolest dude, at least to me, in our little one horse one cop town. I actually got to sit in the back of the schoolbus with highschool kids because he was my brother! A major accomplishment for an elementary school kid. And I am still so proud that I was his Little Sister. He was as awesome to me as these great classic rock bands are to you. He and his band really could play Hotel California back in the day better than anyone I have heard trying to play it. He really was an awesome classic rock guitarist. And one hell of an original artist. Oh my god, I love you Kenneth Leroy!

Old computer. Una mas.

Para mi hermano. Te amo hermano.

And one more classic rock song, that some of you may consider pop, but that's okay. I consider it classic rock and it is where it's at.

Somebody should tell Simmons he's wrong. At least here in Albuquerque. Simmons and Stanley just opened up a Rock & Brew here in Albuquerque. Tickets for the grand opening went on sale for $100.00 bucks a person, just to get in, and sold out the same day. Rock is definitely not dead.

Gene Simmons. Desperately trying to remain relevant.

He should start a rock band someday.
.

Liked Staley and AIC. Never cared that much for Cobain. But they weren't the first lead vocalists to self destruct. Morrison, Janis Joplin, and Steve Marriott come to mind. (Liked Joplin and Marriott as singers more than Morrison.) Waiting on Weiland to finish the job... unfortunately. On the bright side, the last time I saw Paul Rogers (fronting for Queen ), he looked better than most 30 year olds.
