Rod Smith available

im clear we dont need one as we will utilize the Fb as our in game 3rd RB option and in an emergency that thirds guy will be out there to be sighed at the drop of hat should we need him..
But who is that guy? It's easy to just say we will have that guy, but who if you don't know who it is, or if the team has someone they feel good about in camp, how do you know there isn't a void?

The funny thing is that while Rod Smith may not be the right guy, he has experience as both a RB and FB, and you acted like it was ridiculous to think the team would need a guy like that at all. Now you are turning around and saying the opposite - that the team will have a guy that can play both RB and FB. You are contradicting yourself.

watch the cut down and final roster..thats who..its most likely the TCU RB we picked up. he easily as good as rod and can play some fullback wen needed, which isnt a lot....

So, you are saying there is a need for a player to fill that role, and a possible void as things are today, when before you were knocking/mocking the idea that there was a need. Again, you are contradicting yourself.

And, again, I didn't say Rod Smith had to be the guy, I was just questioning why you were mocking the idea that a player might be needed for that role at all.

No not really

FB yes and that FB is an emergency RB if needed but Zeke has clearly shown since college and 4 years in the nfl , hes more then Durable, hes paid to be on the field more then any RB in the entire NFL since 2016 and is still going, pollard wants more snaps and so does fans want to see more pollards, no snaps left after that...

so no a 3rd rb is NOT at all needed until it is, then you go to the available players unsigned by teams and go get him as backup for few games..happens all the time.. man im off this merry go round of wasted thread..

Already have 3rd RB. Rico Dowdle.

Why would Dallas go backwards picking up Smith whose now been released by two different teams before the age of 30?! o_O
You going to trust Rico Dowdle to pick up a blitz if Zeke should go down long term?

I wouldn't really sign Rod Smith, but I think it would be a good idea to carry a vet as a third RB.

3rd Down back is usually a change or pace or style of the primary back, his duties usually are dictated by the fact he can blitz pick up and has good hands since 3rd down guys are used for 3rd and medium or long and most likely a pass play. If you have a back like Zeke you really do not need one, the off chance that he is not available Pollard is probably as good as any 3rd down back out there. the 3rd RB usually needs to play ST and some "exotic" formation to switch things up.

Generally they go to the guy off the street to backfill the #3 RB spot after others move up when there is an injury, not to backfill the #2 spot. And, of course, not all injuries are just for a few games like you suggest. I think most teams would be uncomfortable with a guy no NFL team had an interest in keeping suddenly being thrust into the #2 RB role, especially if it were for a long time.

But, again, you are saying that a FB who can fill in at RB is needed, which is contradictory to your stance that a player like Rod Smith isn't needed. Again, Rod Smith may not be the right guy for the job, but you mocked even the notion that there was a spot available for a guy like that, and now you are saying there is a spot for a guy like that.

Your position also ignores the fact that most NFL teams keep a 3rd RB - one that is not the FB - so that further makes it puzzling why you would mock the notion of the Cowboys doing that. It's not unusual in the least, and you acted as if it was an outlandish notion.

ROD SMith notion that he gets his own thread is astonishing LMAO miss the point of late?

rod had his moment in the sun here. but the sun set a long time ago. the third rb will likely be one of the two udfa rookies.

Rod Smith's failure is the reason why we drafted Pollard who is a much more instinctive, slippery elusive and explosive runner than Smith.
