I just hope they give whomever a rhythm....don't give Alfred 5 carries, then Rod 5 carries....on an on.
I just wonder if they go with some sort of pattern replacement. Kind of like when they wanted to spell Elliott, well the beginning of the 2nd Quarter was Morris'.

I know I am not the only one that is not enamored with Morris. He can run if there is an open lane, but he doesn't seem to me to be able to fight through tackles and he doesn't have much "juke" in him IMO
McFadden is even worse. At least Morris can read a block.

They will. And it usually fails....

Last week the Jets did an interesting thing versus the Bills, who were a good run defense team going into it.

On the first series, they went Forte, McGuire and Powell on three straight downs. Then Powell, Forte, Forte/McGuire, Powell/Forte, Forte/McGuire, Powell, Forte/Powell and McGuire on the following series.

It worked for them, not sure I am too fond of the constant shuffling. To their benefit though, all three have similar running styles. It is hard to change up the way you block for a back midstream if their styles are disparate.

The expectations I'm hearing about this guy have me curious to see what we get from him. I think AlfMo and DMC will get the bulk of the carries leaving the expectations for RSmith unfulfilled. You folks will be disappointed if that happens. IMO, the only way RSmith gets the ball enough so satisfy your expectations is if AlfMo and DMC don't do so good and that's not something you should be hoping for.

I hope Smith isn't the new Hambrick. Hambrick shined as a backup because he was receiving only a few carries and teams were focused on Smith. Once Hambrick got the lead role, teams began studying how to stop him and turned him back into the back he truly was. Smith is an afterthought for defensive coordinators right now.

I have more faith in McFadden and Morris because they've gotten the job done as starters.

McFadden has some 3 years ago and Morris is a here and there back that I am not 100% sold on so I think Smith has as much chance as him at this point, but that is my opinion. What this coaching staff needs to do is give him a chance rather than watch Morris continually hit the back of a pile. IMO

Alfred Morris is the best zone running back that's on the active roster. If the line does their job, he will produce. McFadden isn't great running zone plays, but if they run man blocking schemes, he can have an impact. No one knows what Rod Smith can do when he's not running against scrubs. He looks the part, but there's a reason why he hasn't been more than a special teams demon.

Where losing Elliott hurts the most is that with him on the field, you can run the entire playbook. He excels at running in both man/zone schemes, is a good, albeit under-utilized receiver, and outstanding in blitz pickup. No other runner on the team has that package - they are all deficient in one or more areas on that list. It bears watching to see how much this impacts the flow of the offense.

Our Oline is great and can get him in space and once you get a 250 pound guy at full speed in space he will be hard to stop.

I really like Rod Smith. He brings back a Demarco Murray style of play imo. I like how he finishes runs too out of our 3 current backs.

I like him, too. I just don't want to crown him when he hasn't really done anything.

You can say it was three years ago for McFadden, but that's the last time he was given a chance. And when he was given that chance, he played well in a season where we didn't really have a quarterback.

There are drawbacks to him playing, which is why we drafted Elliott and why he hasn't been dressing for games, but there are also things he can do that the other two can't.

I think we're going to be surprised by Smith, but I'm concerned with his ability to pickup the blitz.
