What type of defense does he run? I remember his D in Chi was a turnover machine, and pretty solid.

Remember his famed Detroit D? 0-16 in his 3rd and final year as Head coach

same as we ran this year, the Tampa Cover 2

Actually, the Bears ran a lot more press man last year. They ran some Tampa, but not as much as in years past. With Urlacher being in major decline, they couldn't. They put Tillman and Jennings in more man to man situations, and had one of the safeties playing closer to the line.

Same as kiffen. But knows what he's doing and can get players to play well for him.

He's a good D coordinator no doubt. And his defenses in CHI did produce a lot of takeaways (similar to what our's did this past year; we just sucked at most everything else).

Our scheme is not the problem here, it's the players, unfortunately. If we upgrade the roster on that side of the ball, I have every bit of confidence in Marinelli to field a solid D.

Like OC's it's not so much the scheme, it's the play caller, and I expect Rod to be a hell of a lot more aggressive and creative than Granny.

I highly doubt Lovie Smith was responsible for those defenses, right? It's not like it was his system. Marinelli just had a title.

Whoa. Rod is a defensive God.

He's got "rushmen".

We dodged a bullet with this Tampa Bay situation. I can't imagine what our defense would look like without his expertise.

The only real good thing that came out of it was the fact that if he left, Kiffin would likely have stayed without someone who could run meetings for him during his nap time. And we would have promoted assistants who were all part of one of the worst defenses in NFL history.

LOL. Okay buddy. Marinelli just had a title and deserves no credit for the defense he coordinated.

Believe that if that's what you choose, I'll just choose to laugh at your ridiculousness.

He is a very good DL coach, nothing more. In Chicago he had a title, and his Defensive guru coach was responsible for the Defense. Look at the years, Rod didn't have the title when Lovie was coach, and tell me if Rod made it better. From what I remember, Ron Rivera was the DC when the Bears went to the SB.

As for him being this "god", was Dallas #1 in sacks this year? Dallas didn't dodge anything. They all run the same system, the DL just rushes the passer, and the rest play a cover-2. Lovie, Monte, Leslie, Rod, have the same system. And it takes a few years of drafts to have the right pieces.

Laugh all you want. Lovie's D, was successful before Rod came to the Bears, before he was given the title, and it will be successful in Tampa. Show me proof, I have already given mine. Would you say Brian Stewart was successful here? Wade was the coach, and the Defense was fairly good while he was here. No, it was Wade's system.

Maybe you missed the part about Rod having rushmen.

Dude! Can you really tell us that you couldn't see the difference in how hard the line played this year? That was Marinelli. Yes they were scrubs and street FA's but they played hard. For the first time in forever I'm not embarassed of that unit. Everywhere else yes but not in how the dline played (effort wise).

I am not understanding your post. What are you trying to say? In the Tampa-2, the DL #1 goal is to rush the passer. This is EVERY Tampa-2 system.

LOOK at what the Tampa-2 asks of it's DL. RUSH THE QB, not play the run, and that was very evident if you look at the stats. If every DL in the league got to just rush the QB, sacks would be up in the league.
