In the other thread you and Trouty were pretty keen on keeping Gregory despite his issues. Curious as to why you wouldn't want Uncle Jerry to keep the door open for Rolando just like he's keeping it open for Randy.
Hey!! Just saw this! :angry:

To different players. One wants to play and the other doesn't -- to answer your question, brother :)

I hear what you're saying-- but they seem to be similar players and Gregory appears to be heading down the same "I'd rather get high than play football" road that McClain is on.

McClain has played in more games and had more impact in 2 years with Dallas than Gregory did.

I'm not defending McClain by any stretch-- just don't understand where all the "Gregory really wants to play football" confidence is coming from. The guy has done nothing but show he would rather burn down a blunt (and his career) than help this team. :)

Fair enough. There's no doubt we have gotten more out of McClain thus far.

With that said, we are in a fundamental disagreement about Randy. It is what it is, at this point, Hawkeye. I think Gregory needs his herb (for medical reasons), but would also love to play ball; you see it as a character weekness, where he would rather smoke to get high and waste his career. There's a subtle nuance in our disagreement, but the subtlety is quite large (if that makes sense).

In any event, we are at an impasse on this one.

The main reason why I replied is because I missed that post from well over a week ago :D

Yah-- agree to disagree with one small clarification that has also caused confusion in our discussion:

I don't see him smoking weed as a character weakness. Lots of players smoke weed and are smart enough to not get caught in the testing. I see his communicating and promising to deliver on the field (repeatedly) -- and then failing to follow through on his word as the character weakness.

He's immature, unreliable, and doesn't honor his word. Replace smoking weed with any other vice, or any addiction for that matter-- and the point would be the same: handle your business and keep your word because people are counting on you.

He has failed to live up to his side of the deal to this point. That's why I'm done with him. I've seen nothing from him that would indicate he's going to be able to change. Talk is cheap at this point.

I, too, wish he had the restraint to stop smoking when the testing is around the corner (as I've heard it's "known" by the players not in the "offenders program" -- those guys get randoms -- when the tests are due).

Do we know whether or not if Randy entered the league already in the offenders program (thus, already subject to random testing that other, non-offenders aren't subject to)? I ask because of his failed test at the combine. He may have came into the league unable to avoid random testing.

Right or wrong, I wish they would change this rule, but it's highly doubtful they will before the next CBA (2021, I believe), which is a lifetime in NFL years.

Not sure about his status in the program prior to getting drafted... and I agree. The policy should be looked at and reformed.
