Dallas Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain sees a lot of similarities between head coach Jason Garrett and Alabama head coach Nick Saban.
On paper, these two coaches are far apart. Garrett is just entering his fifth NFL season as a head coach and has been to the playoffs just once. Saban, as a college coach, has won four national championships and two AP National Coach of the Year awards.
Having played for both coaches, McClain does see a lot of the same.
"Coach Garrett is one of a kind, like coach Saban is one of a kind," McClain said during training camp, via the Dallas Morning News. "They do things different, but at the same time they are similar just because they preach the same attitude. And it's just bringing your best, whatever it is, every day. And they push you to bring the best out of you. For me, that's like being at home. It ain't fair to a player if a coach ever gives you slack. Coach Saban didn't do it. And coach Garrett don't do it either. If I had to say the one thing is in common with those two, that would be it."
Garrett preaches the attitude of "doing the right thing" and being the "right kind of guy." Saban has five life lessons in “The Process” which falls in line with what Garrett preaches — No. 5, "Mental toughness and discipline are paramount."
