Rolando McClain getting noticed

Some numbers to consider:

If McClain continues his high level play, I would think the smart thing to do is re-sign him before he hits the open market.

I'm not sure they are allowed to or not. In the case of Laurent Robinson they couldn't. Maybe McClain is a different situation since he is only in his 4th year.(Robinson was in his 5th) But both were 1 year contracts. So I don't know.

This article goes over how Robinson had a "minimum salary benefit" contract and thus could not negotiate a new contract with the Cowboys exclusively. McClain did not sign that type of contract.

Incidentally, the Jaguars really over-paid for Robinson. Wow.

Imagine if McClain were cut tomorrow. Would he be highly sought after as a "solution"?

Because that is what you do in free agency.

With the way he is playing somebody would pick him up no doubt.

I thought the Cowboys learned from the Robinson deal to get a 2nd year option, do they have that with McClain? Or something else that gives them a little leverage in signing him next year if that turns out to be a good option?

not up to me but for a guy who was drafted where he was drafted and quit twice I would look very hard at his character before I made him a multimillionaire. as fans we want to follow our team and players so if he comes across as whatever then I should get all giddy and accept it? nah man he is the movie while we are talking Dallas Cowboys

Yes I listened to him. He wasn't articulate and was kinda boring. I listened to the words he used. There was nothing there that indicated he has character issues. Maybe you want your watching a different movie....

Not to my knowledge. Good thought, though.

I asked that before. But what happened is that they just bought his contract which was only one year left. Wish they made him sign a new one to replace his present contract then.

I believe the notice Rolando has received up until this point is just the tip of the iceberg if he continues on his current path. He's been a blessing and more, just when this franchise needs an outstanding physical presence desperately at MLB. Cowboys' fans are already entertaining thoughts of him taking over at MLB and Sean Lee being relegated to an outside LB position in the future. If that's not being noticed, then I surely can't say what is.

Eventually, yes.

But not as I specifically stated.

I'm not sure I understand what you were trying to say. As a "solution"? I feel many teams would pounce to upgrade with him, but why would he get cut?

1st&foremost it's about the football. What is it about that these people don't understand?

Get back vultures. He just wants to be another guy. Let's hold them off as long as we can. Going to be difficult. A diamond's gonna shine. Marinelli is already in love with him. There's suppose to be a Special Edition on Marinelli talking about this very soon.

Worst case scenerio: Cowboys D shines the rest of the season with McClain leading them. Marinelli gets HC job somewhere because of stunning turn around, McClain follows Marinelli to new team.

With McClain's past experience with the media, I don't blame him one bit for being guarded with them.

I do know that much of his bad experience with the media was self inflicted, but still, I don't blame him.

I did see his most recent interview, and I agree that he wasn't Mr. Charming up there but some people just aren't good in interviews anyway. Dez isn't always the best in front of cameras and microphones either, but that doesn't keep him from being a beast on the field... from being a top 3 WE in the league. Ask Marshawn Lynch how much he likes giving interviews, boss.

A couple of things that I really do like when he's talking to the media: First, as someone has already pointed out, McClain is always saying things like "we" instead of "I", which is really good. He has said several times about playing for his team mates, or playing for each other. About loyalty and loving his defensive mates. Really, really good IMO, because I think that is what drives Rolando.

Secondly, you can really see the edge he has. The meanness that he plays with is always there. He gives the answers he wants to give and doesn't let any reporter push or cajole him into answering a question that he doesn't want to. Like the interview from yesterday, when he said that his groin was "better than last week" and then when asked the question a different way by another reporter, he smiled and said, "better than last week."

Despite the smile on his face, you just get the feeling that he doesn't see anything funny (hello Alabama police). The media might not love his demeanor... but I promise you his team mates do. McClain's physical side is always just below the surface and it comes out in a big way on game day. So we don't like his interviews because he doesn't seem very nice and forthcoming... well, the opposing offense doesn't like him very much either.

Some of the most intimidating football players in league history have been not great interviews. McClain is fine by me as long as he keeps playing mean and keeps flying around the field blowing people up.

Besides, McClain will get better in interviews I think, as he gets more used to dealing with the Dallas media and kind of gets to know some of them.

Agree whole heartedly.

From a female perspective I interpret his mannerisms in the interviews as being coy. He's also being introspective because he takes a few seconds to think about his answers before he speaks. I also think he's far from being inarticulate. On the contrary, I think he's very articulate and charming. He smiles a lot (which I like) for whatever reason he's doing it.

Just because you don't like giving interviews doesn't make you a bad person. Heard on The Break that Travis is basically the same way when it comes to interviews. He doesn't like the BS that comes with the media. I think 60% of the athletes probably feel the same way. And that number is probably conservative.

In the history of the NFL Draft, I've never seen a player go undrafted because he was a poor interview.

Well put. Also keep in mind practice just ended. After a hard days work I wouldn't want to deal with the media especially whatever you say can and will be used AGAINST you.
