Rolando McClain is a gold mine

Every good game that McClain has... every INT or sack or big hit... only solidifies his status in Dallas that much more, and makes him a part of this team. No longer is he a guy making a comeback attempt. He won the job, is playing lights out, and his team mates love him and what he brings to the table. Each game he becomes a little more a Cowboy and is further and further away from being the guy that didn't want to play.

I honestly feel that way. He has loved football in the past at Alabama, and if he wasn't going to like things in Dallas, I think it would have already fallen apart. He is only becoming more and more a defensive leader now.

A steal of a steal. He is a force and will only get better. Frankly, I think that Marinelli is the perfect guy to be his coach.

This.

You can't just bury your head in the sand and ignore the past though. Yes he's playing well and was a steal, but you cannot just assume that it will be like this for the rest of the year and next year. He has proven multiple, multiple times that he is, let's say erratic. I agree with you, he's playing well and it would be excellent of he were to continue his strong play and be with us next year as well. But I don't think after a training camp and two games we can start relying on him to be part of out long term future on defense, we need a larger sample size, because the sample size telling us that he's a headache far outweighs everything else right now

My, my, my ... I would love for someone to do an expose on your past and let us all take a whack at it. Let's see how trustworthy your posts are.

There's no question Rolando is off to a terrific start. Here's hoping he maintains what he's begun doing so well.

McClain is just such an intimidation factor in the middle of the defense. He is strong and he loves contact. I remember that from him at Alabama and what little I saw of him with the Raiders. He just pounds people. At Alabama (we get a lot of their games around here) I remember thinking that I thought he was the most physical college LB that I have ever seen. He played mean and fast.

Some fans think that all NFL players are fearless... and some are. However, there are plenty who aren't real fond of big-time contact and they don't like a big, fast, physical 260 pound sledgehammer coming at them. The more he puts on tape of what he was doing against the Niners and Titans... the more players will be aware of him before they play Dallas.

I'm not just talking about RB's either. McClain was standing up FB's and guards right in the hole. Stopping them on a dime with a huge collision. Some players are really physical and like contact, and Rolando will meet their aggression with aggression... but the guys who don't love the contact will be keeping an eye on the huge MLB, for sure. And they won't look forward to meeting him.

... and that's what baffles me. Why is this organization not trying (as far as I can tell ... especially from listening to Talkin Cowboys and The Break) everything in their power to get him back on the field? We don't have the luxury of saving anybody for later if that's what they're doing. I just don't know.

RoMc tackles guys like he's wrestling bears in the back woods of AL. And that's a good thing.

Well, I understand what you're saying and I absolutely love what he brings to the defense, but sometimes there is just nothing more than time to get rid of a groin or a hamstring strain/pull. I'm sure he's doing what the trainers tell him to do (ice, therapy, etc.) but if it isn't at a certain point yet, the likelyhood that he re-aggravates it will be high.

You almost have to have had a hamstring or groin pull to understand what it is like. Not really something you want to gut through. It just greatly lengthens the time to get healthy.

What the team is likely thinking is that if they hold him out 1 more game, he will be good as new... but if he plays, he could end up sitting out another month.

I'm not privy to what goes on at Valley Ranch, but I feel quite confident that the team is doing everything they can to get McClain back on the field... and that they are being careful to not rush it to the point that he re-hurts it.

If he misses the Saints game, then so be it. He should be back when we play the Texans. What I want is to make sure he plays at Seattle. Rolando will give them a little taste of their own medicine. He'll match strong, physical play with strong, physical play. He is the only LB we have that I would feel confident about going head to head with Marshawn Lynch.

This defense looks day and night with the guy in there... The way he slings runningbacks down as if they were kids is a huge difference compared to what we saw against Rams when their RBs were pushing our guys back after contact. Honestly, he's one of the only fun things to watch on that defense.
