I thought this happened already, to be honest.
Yes, that's old news. Now maybe it just became "official"...not sure, but the indefinite suspension itself is old news.
Added note: The headline scared the crap out of me in that I had it in my mind that it was Gregory that was indefinitely suspended.

So, indirectly this is good news for Randy Gregory's appeal?

I don't see why Gregory would be eligible to play if he missed a drug test while suspended, but McClain wouldn't.

Unless, the NFL thinks he'll most likely win the appeal???

I still have never seen anything other than mediots citing "sources" that says Gregory is appealing another suspension. Some of these same mediots swore up and down that a damning video of Dez was coming out "any minute now", but alas, it never did. Now it may come to pass that Gregory does get suspended, but up to now I have never seen anything from the team or the league that verifies this.

with the skill, talent and physical attributes this guys has, his demise is one of the big failures in recent memory. I had super high hopes for him when we signed him a few years ago. I have to imagine he has just as much mental issues as addiction problems. If so, it's hard to put all blame on him but damn, he could've had it all. Too bad for his children and loved ones who'm he could've helped and set up for life. I read his net worth is somewhere around $3M, which sounds like a lot, but as we've seen before, goes quickly with the life styles these guys have come accustom to. He never came across to me as a bad person to me.....good luck to him and if in the end football just wasn't his thing, I hope he's got or will get things together.

Correct. I even remember a quote from the NFL that said they don't know anything about a drug test violation regarding Gregory.

My hope is this is more slapstick journalism by the media, and Gregory's time has been served.

Actually, that was only ONE media source - Mike Florio with PFT. He reported it and forced other media insiders to address it. But Adam Schefter said he heard about it but never could verify it, which is why he didn't go with the story.

I wouldn't necessarily compare the Dez video with this story. The NFL typically doesn't announce drug suspensions until it is ready, even though the information may be known and reported by an insider.

The same was done regarding Ro McClain. Media insiders leaked his "indefinite suspension" long before the NFL announced it.

Agreed. Another thing in all of this "appealing" business is that it seems very common for player appeals to be officially announced, at least by the clubs. Maybe I'm wrong on that, but it seems that has occurred numerous times. If so, it certainly hasn't happened in Gregory's case.

You may be right about the Florio report, but my memory of it is different. I know that he started it and Rappaport jumped on it, but it seems to me there were others in on the act as well. I wasn't trying to say the cases are similar, only that inaccurate reporting could be a common thread.
