1st of all I'm a big fan of Romo so this is not a bash Romo thread.
Garrett is growing on me as he progresses but right now I still see him as part of the problem with optimism that he will figure it out and become part of the solution, time will tell as it already has.

PEC: Play Calling, Execution, & Coaching have to be in sync or else talent falls by the wayside.

Ok we got the December woes and the Playoff monkey off our backs, now the new "Knocks" are:

1) Can they come from behind and win against tough teams?
2) Can they make in-game adjustments when getting beat?
3) Can they find an answer for the blitz or while under heavy pressure?

These are challenges and opportunities for growth. The simple answer is fix the O-line and the problem will be solved but there have been teams to go on and win it all with poor O-line play. This is where PEC comes into play and it either gives you an edge or it leaves you at a deficit. I'm eager to see us over come these final hurdles as we make our quest for six in 2010. Of course a nice draft can help in getting us there...

I think #3 has been answered already, at least in part. Romo beat Philly 3 times this year and in games 1 and 3, the Eagles did an awful lot of blitzing. Romo has more problems when he gets pressure with just 4 guys, as we saw in the Vikings game. That is a common problem around the league and not unique to Romo.

Brees struggled but still managed to put up a bunch of points against the same team. It's still a work in progress...

We handle the blitz fine for the MOST part.

Why come from behind? Just get the lead and keep it. :)

This.

I believe Romo is the highest rated quarterback versus the blitz.

That's because he is very good at scrambling.

How 'bout Denver, Green Bay, and Minn?

The Saints O-Line had a much better game than our O-Line did against the Vikings. Brees also had a bunch of turnovers to work with, which ultimately was the difference in the game. It's a lot easier to put 30+ points on the board when you are given 5 turnovers by your opposition.

That being said, we are still a work in progress as you say.

What about them?

How about the other 15 games?

So what? Do you just want him standing there taking the hit? That is what EVERY QB needs to do....scramble or step-up in the pocket to avoid the rush....whatever. He is VERY good at beating the blitz....it's blindness that keeps people from recognizing that.

I will say that if the WR's aren't on the same page that he would HAVE to scramble....but so what?

Garrett will look like a genius with a better o-line.He should be campaigning to draft o-linemen in the draft.

This ^^^

I don't know if any QB can win when a defense is successful rushing just 4 and winning the battle. The ends were in just about every play and the middle got the push. That leaves the rest of the D to sit back. I'm surprised it wasn't uglier. If Romo was a pocket passer, they would have had 10 sacks. I don't recall ever seeing an O-line get that dominated by 4 guys.

YOu call him putting about 14 points from about 37 yards or less, managing to do something? I guess I was a watching a different game. Brees had one good drive the whole game. He was significantly less pressure than Romo was against Vikings.

Brees has always had bad games against teams than can bring pressure up the middle and it happened against Vikings. Only reason Saints won obviously is all the Turnovers by Vikings, even then it was a struggle to put points for Saints.

If that is a good/decent game under pressure by Brees, then I guess its a very subjective call. Personally I thought Brees didn't play well and Payton reallly got way too cute with his play calling.

Our o-line has always struggled against 3-4 teams for some reason (Denver and Green Bay are 3-4s).

Minnesota did not blitz. They got pressure with their front four only, and that is what created problems because they did not have to sacrifice a man in coverage to blitz.

Romo is not good against the blitz because of his scrambling ability. In fact, his scrambling ability has nothing to do with it. That's what helps him against regular pressure, not the blitz.

He's good against the blitz because he is excellent at making the hot read and identifying where the blitz is coming from, then he gets the ball out quickly to the hot receiver in the vacated spot by the blitz.

That is, I would say, half Romo and half Garrett preparing him.

14 vs 3 is quite a contrast but of course we know that wasn't the final score now was it?

Yeah, of course. SO was playing Minnosota in Minny vs playing them elsewhere, as Minny's record proves against good teams. Doesn't it?

How many times was Brees sacked or hit again? 6 sacks vs Brees getting sacked once. ANd then Romo was hit by One DE alone 6 times!!! Yeah, I guess thats all because Romo doesn't know how to handle pressure

If we are playing at home through the playoffs -- or playing roadies out doors next season Romo and Red will look like stars. Especially if we can upgrade our line play.

Playoff pressure is difficult enough. The Metrodome and the SuperDome make it flat crazy. Those fans make a huge difference. I wish we had passionate fans sitting---er should I say STANDING AND GOING CRAZY-- at Cowboy games like that.

Like I said in the OP, this is not a bash Romo thread. Part of the problem was O-line execution, part was play calling, and part was coaching overall. It's just something we need to continue to work on. We had to many games where we were almost completely shut out on offense.
