Romo as Cowboys OC?

Like Romo would ever come back to the team that stabbed him in the heart....

We don't need a different play caller, we need a completely different and updated scheme to take advantage of today's rules, not the rules of 25 years ago.

This is the issue. It's the offense, not the play calling. Hypothetically you bring Romo in, but he's still gong to run Garretts offense. The same offense that has proven to rely heavily on personnel rather than play design, deception, etc...

I like to believe Romo changed over 50% of JG calls and that kept us in allot of games

No.... We need to go in a different coaching direction all the way around. I like what the Rams did. They went with a young guy that can get in there with the players and truly inspire them. Dude has turned that franchise around in just one off season. Unreal.... Yet here we are in year 7 with Coach Gravy Train...
If we were to hire a young guy people would be screeching from. The ramparts that the Cowboys HC position shouldn't be a training situation.

They did it with JG. They'd have done it with McVay.

The offense that was historically great last year and was top 5 before this 3 game clunker? The one installed by one of the most respected offensive minds in the league?

That offense is the problem?

There goes the running game. Dak will throwing the ball over 40 times and will have to ice his arm after the game if this happened.

I think this might be a win win. I also think he could replace JG at some point. He has a great relationship with Dak and they respect each other. Our play calling has been horrendous and we need a change, I really was hoping to wake up to today and see that Linehan was fired..

Romo landed the lead analyst position at CBS. He's working a friend and golfing buddy, he has no pressure to win or lose, he's got plenty of money, and zero reason to work for Jerry Jones again.

I hear you but I disagree...

Jerry made JG his puppet head coach without a proven resume of success.

Todd McVay has a proven record of success.

Early coaching careerEdit
McVay began his coaching career as an assistant wide receivers coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2008 under head coach Jon Gruden. The following year, he was the wide receivers/quality control coach for the Florida Tuskers of the United Football League(UFL).[6]

Washington CommandersEdit
In 2010, McVay was hired as the assistant tight ends coach for the Washington Commanders. In 2011, he was promoted to tight ends coach, a position he held through the 2013 season.

On January 14, 2014, McVay was promoted by new Commanders head coach, Jay Gruden, to offensive coordinator. In his first year as offensive coordinator, he turned the team's offense into the 12th-ranked pass offense in the National Football League (NFL) -- averaging 268.4 passing yards per game with third year quarterback, Kirk Cousins -- the 17th-ranked rush offense, with 97.9 rushing yards per game, and the 10th ranked total offense in the NFL, a year after the team's offense finished ranked 25th in total offense, averaging 24.3 points per game and 353.8 total yards per game. In 2016, the offense ranked as the third best pass offense in the NFL with 309.3 passing yards per game, improved to the 20th ranked rush offense after being 25th the year prior (averaging 106.0 rushing yards per game), and finished 12th overall in total offense, averaging 24.8 points per game and 385.6 total yards per game.

My point is to show replacing Linehan with Romo achieves nothing. It's still Garretts offense we're running.

To your point, yes I do believe the offense is A problem when one person is injured or unavailable and the whole thing goes in the toilet, whether it's Romo(in the past) or now Zeke. We have enough evidence to suggest that this same brilliant offense and coaching staff is incapable of adjustments and accounting for the loss of key personnel.

He's probably more likely to come play than take that job. Neither of which is happening, though he did go out of his way to say his back was fine.

Oh, and Nantz needs to lose the whole calling him, 'Tone', thing...heard that more than once

Ill give you a like because Romo has a brilliant football mind. Im uncertain of his relationship with Dak but feel he would make it work regardless if last year wasnt as it appeared. Only thing I question is his ability to be hard on guys. Hes always been a players player so it would be a different mindset. Not like Troy who would rip guys apart if need be.

Good point:clap:

The QB is not playing well. There isn't a scheme to make the qb see the open man or be accurate.

Not gonna happen.

Romo has single-handedly made CBS relevant again. He works 3 hours per week. Jerry can't outbid CBS.

Jeez these posts never end. This is up there with Romo for GM and eventually team owner. Christ people, he’s gone for good...

Team needs to stop hiring it’s own.
Exactly. Romo's extremely intelligent, but I don't want anyone with ties to the cowboys coming here on the coaching staff because Jerry develops an attachment and accountability goes out of the window. I want someone who has no attachment to the organization and is under threat to lose their job if they don't perform.

I think Tony is doing a pretty good job in his current gig considering it's first year, but I can't help but think in his heart he would rather be closer to the "action" on the sidelines.

I can see Tony at some point persuing an opportunity to get into coaching to help fulfill his competitive drive. Tony is not a suit and tie kinda guy.
