We always celebrate our mistakes, why not our accomplishments?

Which if these players would you consider our greatest acquisition post 1996?

Undrafted free agent quarterback who is putting up hall of fame numbers?

Undrafted free agent wide receiver who is probably a top 5 receiver in the league?

seventh round two time pro bowl defensive tackle? Probably the best pass rushing nose tackle in the nfl.

DeMarcus Ware, probably the best defensive player in the league, great pick even if he was 1st round value from the get go.

I'd say Romo simply because franchise quarterbacks are so hard to come by no matter where you get them.

I'd give a little nod to Jason Witten too, the guy wasn't a super-high pick and when all is said and done is going to be maybe the best of all time at his position.

touché salesman

I can't wait until we're talking about Felix Jones in the same light. In my opinion he needs to do some extreme lower body conditioning/strenghtening, he might lose fractions of seconds off his speed. But the durability would be worth it.

If he gets the majority of the carries next year, a 1000 yard 10 TD season is not out of the question.

Romo. He can make mistakes, but you put another guy in there without his skills and suddenly everybody looks worse.

At his YPC this year, he'd need only 169 carries to get 1,000 yards.

Until Romo has more playoff success, I'd go with Ware, who might end up being the best defensive player in franchise history. Romo won't be better than the third-best quarterback in team history until he wins at least one Super Bowl.

I agree. Romo is an outstanding player, but Ware is the best defensive player in the league and has been for three years now IMO.

Bob Lilly
Randy White
As great as D ware is he has a lot of wood to chop to pass them

Romo, without him we are not a competitive team. I have seen this franchise on different occasions lead by hack QB's and knowing we have a true franchise QB means allot

I agree with you Adam. Ware is the best player of this group hands down. He may end up as our best DP all time. Provided HE has more post season success and a SB win.

But he's not our best acquistion post 1996. Romo is. Without Romo, Ware is probably toiling away on a team without a winning season since 2005.

QB has always been the most important/impactful position on a team. In todays game it's just magnified.

If there was a 2 or 3 time probowl undrafted FA on this list - that'd be the most impressive.

I'll go with Romo.

At this point in his career I'd have to say Ware. The guy is playing phenomenal football even with all the attention paid to him by opposing offenses, and he'll only get better now that they will have to pay Spencer just as much respect.

If Romo can win at least one Super Bowl I think he'll be up there with Staubach and Aikman, you could say even higher if he can win two because of the undrafted free agent factor.

Austin if he can continue his form for another 5-7 years then I'd hold him up to Irvin/Pearson heights because of his undrafted free agent status.

Ratliff has another few seasons to go at his level of play to be up there with Ware.

I think if Ware can continue his dominance for another 4-6 years he'll probably be one of the top defensive Cowboys in history if not the best. Ratliff I think will be up there but can never surpass Ware. Romo will only ever pass Staubach and Aikman if he can win 3 Super Bowls, 2 will get him awfully close. And Austin will be the best if he can help Romo get at least 2. People will attribute a good portion of Romo's future success to the emergence of Austin.

We had winning seasons with Quincy Carter and Drew Bledsoe in two of the three seasons before Romo took over, and we had less talent around them than we do now. I'm sure if Romo had never panned out, we'd have found some semi-decent quarterback who could get us to 9-7 or 10-6.

Yeah, but YPC do not translate as carries increase. Having said that, I like his odds to get 1000 yards anyway.

Ware is the best Defensive player in the league IMO. I'd take DWare over anybody right now.
