Tony Romo: Cowboys got a 'good one' in Frederick

Travis Frederick gave the Dallas Cowboys something to be hopeful about in Canton, holding his own and then some during the Hall of Fame game.

The first-round draft pick saw time at center and right guard during the team's win over the Miami Dolphins. While Frederick gave his performance a mixed review, he has the support of one person whose opinion counts.

"Travis has done a great job," quarterback Tony Romo said, according to the Cowboys' team site. "They picked a good one there. He's going to be a guy who's going to help us a lot for a long time. I don't know whether people are talking about whether or not we reached for him and stuff like that I guess at the time, but he's good football player and we got a good first-round draft pick there."

Frederick is a former college engineer whose intelligence has been cited as one of his positive attributes.

their respective high schools are 25 miles apart. Wonder if they are in the same conference?

And he is one hairy MoFo!

Tell that to his face! He might let you get away with that if it's not on the field.

Tell him that on the field, and see what you come out looking like...

He would love to kick your butt on the football field and then buy you a hotdog, maybe.

I really like this kid and was really stoked when we drafted him. I couldn't believe the hate the guy got from "media heads" if the guy is a 10 year starter he was not a reach.

I wouldn't tell him that to his face on the field... even for a free hot dog.

This tells me Romo didn't spend much time around the CZ draft weekend.

I watched a bunch of Fredericks games after we drafted him. I came away very impressed with how he can move DTs and create running lanes for RBs. I don't remember the last time our offense could run inside. It will completely change how defenses have to play us and I would think they will find out real fast that bringing the house is going to create some very big plays for us.

Why...? You scared? Not..

But, the other teams better watch out for this grizzly looking man. The Cowboys went out and got the bear that they always needed.

(stupid cowboy fans)

What on Earth is a college engineer? Do they mean he majored in engineering? Even so, majoring in engineering does not make you an engineer.

Something I liked Sunday was his play at the goal line. On two consecutive running attempts, he absolutely pinned his man to the turf. I mean, the defender was just unable to move or do anything to prevent the back from scoring if the other blocking had held up as well. (I thought Leary made good blocks at the goal line, too.)

He majored in computer engineering, but was actually a double major. I can't remember at the moment what the other one was.

Anyone watch "Big Brother" on CBS? There is a big dude on there with a beard and every time I see him I think of Fred...I hopes he wins the game just because he reminds me of the Cowboys AT ALL TIMES!!!

He was trying to show that Frederick is intelligent because people usually consider engineers smart.

Exactly. This guy should be a short yardage powerhouse.

Frederick is going to have rookie growing pains, but the talent is there. Funny how that works out. They actually get quality linemen when they use higher draft picks. Maybe it will become a habit .

3rd round grade my ***, the guy is really good. I don't care if its one preseason game, everything about the guy says he is going to be a great center and I feel ok with saying we will sim him in a couple pro bowls in his career.
