I know Romo talked in the pre-season about really studying guys like Tom Brady and trying to quiet his feet in the pocket. But in today's game, at least in the first quarter it looked like he was standing completely flat-footed back there in the pocket. Now granted he had all the time in the world to do so, and it didn't seem to affect his play one bit. Just wondering if I'm the only only one who noticed or if anyone has any commentary good bad or indifferent.

I noticed it and I thought I was watching Tom Brady for a second. He just stood their motionless at times. And why shouldn't he, while receiving zero pressure? I'm no expert on QB mechanics, but I thought it was awesome. :D

The irony of that post is off the charts. You are wasting your time avoiding discussing the issue I raised by telling me I'm wasting my time. Fantastic! Care to actually contribute?

nothing wrong with looking flat flooted....worked for Staubach when he was not on the move. What concerns me is Romo not stepping into some throws when under pressure...but I think Ill take it after years of Leaf, Carter, Wright, Bledsoe and others ;)

Has anyone noticed how certain fans have no clue about football?

He made an observation and asked for input regarding what it might mean. What's there to need a clue about?

And, to the OP, yes, it was obvious that he was working on staying in his release position rather than pattering forward with each read or pump fake. IMO, we're in for an MVP-like season from Tony Romo, and I think that would have been the case with Tom Brady playing all year, as well.

Observation are great, but in his question he answered his own observation based on what Tony had already mentioned about working on settling his happy feet in the pocket. Sorry if I misread the intention of the thread, just too many fans can't just seem to enjoy the state of the team right now instead of nit-picking every thing to death.

Ah, I see what you were responding too. If he was being critical of Romo today and not just asking a question about his footwork, then I agree with you, it would be a stupid thread.

I also agree that too many fans spent the offseason criticizing all sorts of ridiculous aspects of a Superbowl-quality roster and coaching staff. It takes a lot of enjoyment out of this site in general for me, and I don't have much forgiveness in me when the 'gee, I'm really happy to eat some crow' threads start cropping up with each succeeding win.

Yup. I saw it too.

In the first quater it looked a little bit arrogant to me - in a positiv kind of way for a dallas fan. he had so much time i could not believe it.

but in the third quater cleveland got more preassure on him. that's the time were i got nervous. because romo didn't seem to move well. not that he is hurt but to me he tries to hard to sit back in the pocket. he spoke of it, that he trained on it (not stepping forward when going thu his reads). buit to me that looked way too much thinking and trying to do better where there is no need to. he loses to much of his scrambling skill. and thats where he is really great in.

the protection for him came together again after one or two lousy drives. still after that romo looked like moving with his brakes on. but sometimes its just hard to flip your play when you are fixed onto another style in your head.

i hope as the season progresses he will get to his more "fluid" playingstyle. he can't rely on the ol to give him that much time like against the browns.

its a double edged sword. he can pass better but is more vulnerable to the rush.
I really wish he would fixate on NOT FIXATING on TO and throwing pics.

It brought back memories of Kenny the Snake Stabler. He used to stand back there like that and had a lightning fast release. Wade has even mentioned in the past that that is who Romo reminds him of.

Stabler also had the best OL in football at that time too.

I don't see what the problem is. It seems like fans have to nitpick every detail to death, 90% of the time they have no clue about what they are talking about and are just making stuff up trying to get a "gotcha" moment. Let's just let the coaches worry about mechanics and we just enjoy the game.

Wow, serves me right for trying to start a meaningful conversation. I knew when I posted that 90% of the responses would be lame like this. I'm not ripping anyone and the intent of my post was not to do so. I thought Romo played a great game. It was just something I noticed that I had not seen in preseason and don't recall having seen form him in previous games.

But lease, since I know absolutely nothing about football as you claim, educate me. Tell me why it is that most QBs seem to be up on the balls of their feet when they're in the pocket but Romo is standing still like he's looking over the menu at McDonalds.

I anxiously await my education.

Ummm watch Tom Brady. Then watch Romo against the browns. Romo even said he watched alot of Brady on film during the offseason. He worked on his footwork so he can make all the throws accurately. He also doesn't have happy feet in the pocket like last season.

TBH, you don't really want your QB bouncing around back there like Peyton Manning. It works for Manning. It's not ideal.

I think he was reacting to the 'flat-footed' word choice in your title. That's a phrase that usually has a negative connotation. It was pretty clear from your post that you were just commenting on footwork, and the change from last year was definitely noticeable.
