I noticed it and I thought I was watching Tom Brady for a second. He just stood their motionless at times. And why shouldn't he, while receiving zero pressure? I'm no expert on QB mechanics, but I thought it was awesome. :D

Exactly. No need to get happy feet for no reason. It's awesome that Romo is humble enough and smart enough to study film of Brady and Peyton.... My only criticism of Romo's feet, is that he didn't use them to pick up that one first down, when it would have been easier to do that, than it was to throw the pass that went incomplete... But that's nitpicking....

24-32 - 75%. Incredibly accurate!

One of the best games I have seen Romo play I think. Completely under control. Only one error in an otherwise perfect game and that error was due to the surprise bowl over of Felix.

That said he is great on the run. The pressure he got in the third quarter was surprising probably to him also and was not prepared mentally that he was going to have to get out on the move a little more than he did. He would have served himself a little better moving around in the 3rd and not getting hit so much.

I think he will learn that he can do both!

OK, flat-footed does have a negative connotation, my bad.

Found this quote from Romo in Galloway's article today which pretty much spells it out for me:

"That’s what I was working on the whole time [in the off-season]," Romo added. "By doing it this way, I didn’t feel the pressure, and I really helped the offensive line."

After film study from the last two seasons, Romo found what he thought was a flaw. On 5-step drops, he had been constantly inching up in the pocket, sometimes as much as a couple of yards. "Today, I just planted my feet and went through the reads," he said. "I was pleased today with how all that worked out."

Works for me. Like I said it wasn't a critique, but an observation.

Looking forward to Romo having that kind of throwing time against the Eagles next week!

It brought back memories of Kenny the Snake Stabler. He used to stand back there like that and had a lightning fast release. Wade has even mentioned in the past that that is who Romo reminds him of.

Stabler also had the best OL in football at that time too.

You're exactly right... Good point.

It's very impressive to me that Romo recognized his "happy feet" errors and fixed them in the offseason. I can actually see what he is talking about now about moving up and making it hard on the O-line. He is making things better on himself, his O-line, and receivers right now.

If I was a Browns fan I would have been FURIOUS yesterday watching Romo (almost arrogantly) just standing their Brady-like.
:laugh2:

its a double edged sword. he can pass better but is more vulnerable to the rush.
I really wish he would fixate on NOT FIXATING on TO and throwing pics.

That's the way the play was designed. He wasn't helped out by the bad block by Felix which made him get the throw behind.

I know Romo talked in the pre-season about really studying guys like Tom Brady and trying to quiet his feet in the pocket. But in today's game, at least in the first quarter it looked like he was standing completely flat-footed back there in the pocket. Now granted he had all the time in the world to do so, and it didn't seem to affect his play one bit. Just wondering if I'm the only only one who noticed or if anyone has any commentary good bad or indifferent.

I notice that this thread sucks!

He wasn't flat-footed, by the definition of the term. What you mean is he was still in the pocket. And why not? They rushed 3 all game and he could just stand there. If he moves, he actually gets closer to the rush and the OLineman (who have their back to him) don't know where he is anymore.

Well it didn't seem to hurt him any and if it reminds any one, and I mean coaches and such not necassarily fans, of Tom Brady then I won't complain about it at all.

I only read bits of this thread, but I always felt that a QB was best in an athletic position. This doesn't mean in a running position, but being on the balls of the feet.

I liked that he wasn't too bouncy, and luckily our line (other than Procter in the second) was dominant, but I would like to make sure that his athleticism isn't stifled.

Still, I like that he can so effectively work on something in the offseason. Dude is committed to winning.

Wow, serves me right for trying to start a meaningful conversation. I knew when I posted that 90% of the responses would be lame like this. I'm not ripping anyone and the intent of my post was not to do so. I thought Romo played a great game. It was just something I noticed that I had not seen in preseason and don't recall having seen form him in previous games.

But lease, since I know absolutely nothing about football as you claim, educate me. Tell me why it is that most QBs seem to be up on the balls of their feet when they're in the pocket but Romo is standing still like he's looking over the menu at McDonalds.

I anxiously await my education.
Anytime someone even thinks of throwing any type of criticism, even if it wasn't intended to be, people freaking lose it.

You asked a valid question, I thought it was interesting seeing him stand still in the pocket, kinda odd, but cool.

The question was weird though, asked as if it might be a negative. Really, I don't see how standing still in the pocket when no one is close to you is much of a problem.

Unfortunately I saw it in the same context as a negative, nit-picking question? I think Romo should be appreciated for his desire to constantly find ways to improve himself! So pardon me for taking offense for any statement that can be construed as a criticism of the man! Its been since Aikman that I have fully appreciated the QB position on this team.
