Romo haters take heed article by Elliot Harrison

Last week, I innocently penned an article on the most overrated/underrated Dallas Cowboys of all time. Somehow, I overlooked safety Roy Williams in the overrated section. Somehow, I overlooked that placing a certain quarterback in the underrated section would blow up my Twitter account.
Man, do people hate Tony Romo.

So, where does the negativity come from? How do people not see that Romo is, in fact, one of the mostunderrated players in our game?

Merriam-Webster -- the entity, the book, the all-knowing word channel that hovered over our fifth-grade year like Us Weekly over all things Lohan -- has this to say about "underrated": to rate too low: undervalue.

Undervalue. That's the key here.

How valuable is Romo? Well, the Dallas Cowboys just deemed that he's worth $108 million. And it's no wonder why: Considering how poorly the offensive line and defense played last season, the 'Boys should've considered themselves lucky to reach four wins, let alone eight.

Romo also is highly valued in sports television, where any big-time mistake he makes often becomes the lead highlight on "SportsCenter." You see, it's just not cool to show Romo tearing it up, like he did several times last year en route to a 4,900-yard campaign.

Everybody knows the only way to judge a QB is using solid metrics like "The Clutch Factor."

Who gives a crap about facts and logic?

Until our D gets it together,l Murray can stay off the injury list and our Oline can give the RB and running chance and our QB time to throw we will be looking at another 8-8 season...of course I'm sure all the blame will lie solely with Romo with "Cowboys fans"

Love this quote

The problem with this quote is that its a loaded gun. If you look at his stats and say as an individual he's made the team so much better then the question is "why don't they ever win and get to the playoffs and win." If your response is "its a team game" then you can't use the former to talk about how good his stats are. My take is I think people know how good the guy is/can be but there are games with the season on the line that will always show that in the 1 game that is needed, he might not be there. Not all the time, just in that Washington game time. BTW, I'm a Romo supporter. I only want JG gone.

it's his individual statistics that allowed the team to reach what little success they have had

Romo's a "choker" like LeBron and Peyton were "chokers".

The morons who labeled THOSE guys "chokers" were clearly wrong, and not because LeBron/Peyton eventually won titles. They were wrong because LeBron/Peyton were ALWAYS good enough to win titles, but the reality is that they play TEAM SPORTS and they couldn't control how the rest of their TEAM performs.

Same morons who were lauding Tim Tebow in 2011.

It's such an obvious and elementary concept that it's a bit frightening how many people can't grasp it. It's a good reminder of the average (un)intelligence of the average sports fan.

You can't achieve individual stats without the team. The same team that keeps Romo and the Cowboys down is the same team that helps him achieve his impressive stats.

He puts up his stats because of 1) his own brilliance and 2) the play-makers on offense. The porous run game, offensive line, and defense are dragging this team down.

See the statistical rankings. Our passing game was among the best in the NFL (as usual), but the D and run game were horrendous.

Elementary stuff here.

None of that negates what I said, though.

Nav22 thank you...it's like noone gets it anymore. I'm glad to see someone who looks at the big picture here. Its so funny cause I see it just the way you do...exactly the way you do and that makes me out to be Romo apologist to those who only get thier info from the media and just regurgitate what they just heard on ESPN.

Here's my question who those who overrate Romo as a choker, won't ever win anything. Who is Dallas better with at the helm this year. Tony Romo or Kyle Orton? (Or Kevin Kolb or Ryan Fitzpatrick or EJ Manuel...)

I guarantee you, quoting couchscout, that there are probably 25ish other teams that would take Romo over their starting QB if money wasn't an issue. Scouts and GM's know what Romo brings to the table. If you're down two in the NBA Finals and you miss the three, do you get blamed for it? Or does surrendering 20 offensive rebounds sort of make one of the reasons why you lost the game?

Of course you get blamed for it. Because you're a superstar in a major American sport and the average fan is a complete moron. See the LeBron James "choker" label until the summer of 2012.

You made the mistake of asking the question rhetorically as if the masses here could grasp why it shouldn't be the last-second-shooter's fault in. They can't. I promise you the same people who rip Romo are the same ones who ripped LeBron and hailed Tebow. They don't get it and they never will.

I would like to see Romo hurt and lost in pre-season. Then I would love to see the Romo haters see what it's really like to not have a QB like Romo. Or, instead, I would rather Romo just give all that money back and get released and go to a team that has fans that appreciate him for what he has done, not for what he has done in THE LAST GAME!

The haters will scatter and hide under the rocks. When Romo whens a championship you better believe we will remember who the haters were.
