Have you been watching the Packers w/o Rodgers? Garbage.

If we didnt have Romo it would be the same for us.

We have a valuable QB!

Same with Peyton Manning as displayed in 2011 with the Colts.

With superstar QB -- Superbowl challenger.
Without superstar QB -- trash.

May as well add Tom Brady and Drew Brees as well. Those teams go nowhere without their QB's.

You're are correct, sir. I might add that Detroit, SD,Carolina, Pitts would all be garbage without their starters also. Its not a knock on Tony but the league rules have been slanted towards the passing offenses therefore having a great qb (which Romo Is) gives you a decided advantage.

I didnt mention the first group of qbs (Brady, Brees, Manning, and Rogers) because it goes without saying that those teams would suffer without them but even the next echelon of qb's team would suffer greatly without them. Its just the nature of todays game.

Obvious observation is obvious ;)
Exactly. And not just obvious, but many years too late. Frankly, I would have expected all dedicated Cowboys fans to have come to that realization a LONG time ago. This is not breaking news. I realize the OP is giving props to Romo but this seems to be a recent revelation for far too many "fans" (including a bunch of Zoners) that coincides with the recent love Romo has been getting from the media. The guy has been a top five-ish QB since he became a starter and it is a bit aggravating to see some posters only now coming to that conclusion.
It really is just more of the same. The media has suddenly found love for Romo and not coincidentally, a number of posters have suddenly gotten on board too. More sheep-like mentality. We ALL should have been having this discussion five years ago, not because we should all show blind loyalty to our team but because it's been an incredibly obvious reality for a long time now.

I completely agree with OP. The franchise QBs aren't dime a dozen, they are hard to come by as currently there are shortage of them in the NFL and I don't think some of our own fans hating on Romo and want him gone realizes this.

So what is the excuse for the Packers defense?

The Packers defense isn't all that great. Rodgers' presence allowed Green Bay to sustain drives, score points and give the defense a rest.
Usually, great offenses mask average defenses. When you have a great defense, it can sustain a team with mediocre play at quarterback and on the offense (see Denver Broncos 2011, see Tampa Bay Buccaneers 1999). But a good to great quarterback can mask the deficiencies of an average defense.
Currently, the Packers can't sustain drives. Defenses aren't scare of their quarterbacks so they can press the receivers and play eight in the box. The Packers quarterbacks are scared to throw into windows, windows Aaron Rodgers fitted balls into with ease.
The Packers are done if Rodgers doesn't get back in there.

Good thread, but imo I think you could say this for most teams without a strong defense or running game. For example, was Trent Dilfer important to the Ravens?

Fair points, but I think the Packers are already finished. Even if Rodgers comes back, will he have the same zip on his throws?

I don't think he'll be the same either. He's been out a while. It's going to take some time for him to get back into mid-season form. And you know defenses will be targeting that shoulder.
