Both Dez and Romo are talents that transcend their personal abilities to the point of making their compatriots better along with them.
Dez can make a QB look better than he is,
Tony can make his receivers look better than they are.

It's a wonderful thing to see the two of them in sync.
I, for one, hope to see them in sync together for many more years to come.

Yup, I agree with this. Both are great players who make other players around them better, I would hate to see one off the field, because this team is at it's best when those guys are playing.

As for the OP, I think that's just great QBs in general (which Romo is). They don't need freakishly talented WRs, just give them guys who are QB Friendly (run crisp routes, solid hands, level headed, knows their role) and they will make them look great. We've seen this continuously with the likes of Cole Beasely, Julian Edelman, Laurent Robinson, Miles Austin, ect; It's not a requirement to have a 6'4 220 lb WR that runs a 4.4 40, it just makes it easier if you got one.

Look around at the top wrs in the league. They produce because they have qbs who can get them the ball. No seriously go look.

Larry Fitzgerald is a hall of famer. But he went through a hellacious stretch because of poor qb play.

Also a qb with no weapons will struggle. This is also known.

News at 11.

Wr and QB is the chicken and egg argument. A good receiver will make a decent QB look good, a Good Qb can make decent receiver look good. You just do not see a lot of premiere receivers hit the open market in their prime, I guess the closest would be vincent Jackson. Miles would have still been here if his hamstrings weren't made of tissue paper due to that he had to run things at 3/4 speed. Robinson, I do not fault him for taking #1 money from the Jags even though he was really #2 unfortunately too many concussions ended his career at least he got a good chunk of change before it all went away. Crayton was decent slot guy and I think he was used wrong everywhere else. romo sure didn't go out of his way to make RW11 look like an NFL receiver.

Romo is a great QB. That said, he needs a running game more than a stud receiver.

You know if DEZ signs a long term contract today by the deadline we are going to party like it's 1984 :oldcouple:

Romo is great. He makes a HUGE difference to all those around him.

But make no mistake losing Bryant for games will be felt.

I' m definitely all in or your post.

While I have done my share of Romo critiques..

I too think Dez has greatly benefitted from Romo pulling the trigger for him.

It clearly remains to be seen if him leaving for greener pastures and not finding another Romo will also implode his future.

Romo extends plays, buys time and helps his OL succeed and his running game be a direct result of his ball handling and playcalling at the line of scrimmage that not every QB will duplicate.

Dez needs to stop putting himself above his teammates and smell the roses.

Keep his career in Dallas and enjoy a trip to the HofF when the time comes.

Or take the money and hope you play long enough to collect it.

It's not hard.

Romo got market value why shouldn't Dez get market value?

He's a lot better than his detractors think he is, and he's a lot worse than his proponents think he is.

I just pray that the guy gets a ring in the next few years, or he won't ultimately get the credit that he probably deserves. If he just keeps doing what he did last year, and doesn't make any back breaking mistakes, I feel like we're going to be a force this year. Much like all teams, we'll go as high or as low as Romo takes us.

You can blame Jerry Jones, Wade Phillips and Young Offensive coordinator / Head Coach Jason Garrett for that.

I'm a huge believer in Romo and I think he will make any WR shine. That said, this looks like the beginnings of revisionist history where, if the Dez thing doesn't work out, we can say well it's OK, romo makes any WR great. I can promise you that Romo wants Dez playing on this team.

I don't think Romo makes Dez much better. I think a QB with a big arm could probably make better use of Dez, but Romo makes most receivers much better than they are.

Here was my thought process when I was contemplating a season without Bryant: What if it's Romo and not Dez that is so overpoweringly good?

I remember Patrick Crayton being lauded as a B grade talent. He believed it and after he signed elsewhere he promptly vanished. Laurent Robinson came out of nowhere and looked like a Pro Bowler at times. As soon as he found a new team he became all but invisible. Miles Austin. Hell, he wasn't even that great when he was here except for that one magical Kansas City game. He goes to a new club and they absolutely rued the day he signed with them. Is anybody seeing a pattern here?

Let's look at it from another angle...when Romo has missed time and another QB has come in to run the offense, where was Dez and a monster 10 catch, 200 yard 3 TD game? Nowhere, right? I'm not saying Bryant is not a good player. I'm not even saying him being in the game makes no difference. I AM saying that Romo seems to make pedestrian receivers look good...and in Dez's case I think he makes a great receiver look top 3. The team can and will win games without Dez. As long as the OL, Romo, Witten and a decent D show up they will win games.

Are you talking about yourself? I know personally, that I have been fighting Cowboy fans for 8 years on how great Romo is. And nobody needed last season or another playoff victory to figure that out. The guy has been a great QB since he has been a starter. And he has gotten better with age. Now if your just coming to the dance, then congrats, you made it. Definitely late, but better then never.
