Romo may be even better than we give him credit for

Dez should get market value. But he isn't willing to accept that.

Its all about guaranteed money. Cowboys want like 20 million guaranteed and Dez wants like 50 million. Stephen is now handling the contracts and negotiations. Thank God. Jerry would have given him the highest contract in NFL history fully guaranteed.

I don't think Romo makes Dez much better. I think a QB with a big arm could probably make better use of Dez, but Romo makes most receivers much better than they are.
Agree..Especially with the "much" part.

The guy that Romo makes better is Williams, imo. I suspect he'll get close to 1000 yards and 8-9 TDs this year

Are you talking about yourself? I know personally, that I have been fighting Cowboy fans for 8 years on how great Romo is. And nobody needed last season or another playoff victory to figure that out. The guy has been a great QB since he has been a starter. And he has gotten better with age. Now if your just coming to the dance, then congrats, you made it. Definitely late, but better then never.

No, man, I have always loved Romo. I remember him leading a drive down the field to score in the 4th quarter of a preseason game before he was the starter and thinking "Man, THAT guy should be our quarterback!" I was stating that he may be even BETTER than I thought he was because guys that look great with him throwing them the ball tend to look pedestrian when they play with someone else, that's all.

It took you 47 minutes to think up this snarky zinger as an addendum to your first reply?

I am in awe of your rapier wit.

Tass - your lady looks all soft and feminine. I guess she's not torturing herself in the weight room any more. Nice.

Lucky you.

Dez is fortunate to have a QB like Romo but make no mistake.. Dez also helps his QB and could thrive with other good QB's.

Let's look at it from another angle...when Romo has missed time and another QB has come in to run the offense, where was Dez and a monster 10 catch, 200 yard 3 TD game?

The 3 most productive games Dez had as a rookie were with Jon Kitna at QB including his first 100 yard game. It took awhile for Dez and Romo to develop chemistry. Dez didn't have his first 100 yard game with Romo until week 4 of the 2012 season.

I'm not saying Bryant is not a good player. I'm not even saying him being in the game makes no difference. I AM saying that Romo seems to make pedestrian receivers look good...and in Dez's case I think he makes a great receiver look top 3. The team can and will win games without Dez. As long as the OL, Romo, Witten and a decent D show up they will win games.

Like all good QB's Romo can make a receiver look good but Dez has made Romo look good at times with all the down the field contested jump ball catches he's made as well as all the TD's he's scored on fades in the corner of the end zone. Dez has also made some big plays after routine catches. Dez made Kitna look pretty good in 2010.

I liked Kitna enough.
Still, I'm sure it was mostly to do with the absolute obvious....that Dez was a rookie WR, and they usually take at a minimum half a season to get going.
Also, when Wade was let go the whole team that had quit on him finally lit up...so no telling how great the second half of that season would have been with Romo.
They were a different team energy-wise with a new coach that year.

Having said that, for Dez has helped Romo on many, many occasions--which is what you expect from a WR now making 14 mil per year.

QB's and WR's go hand in hand they're a number of QB/WR combos in the HOF. Alvin Harper was a very good receiver with the Cowboys and Aikman but only caught 67 passes the rest of his career after he left Dallas. John Jefferson was arguably the best WR in the game in the late 70's early 80's with Dan Fouts and air Coryell putting up over 1300 yards and 13 TD's in 1980 but vanished once he left for Green Bay after a contract dispute. It's the QB combined with the type of offense that makes receivers productive. Dez would be productive with any QB because he's a playmaker who can attack the football and out physical defenders.

Kitna being a smart veteran immediately recognized the talent Dez had in 2010 and threw balls up to him allowing Dez to go up and make plays. In the only 100 yard game Dez had until 2012 he caught a 46 yard jump ball from Kitna. Dez is the type of receiver that could make a lot of QB's look good with his ability to high point the ball and win jump ball battles. He has tremendous ball skills. It took Romo awhile to get on the same page with Dez building chemistry with him. There were several miscommunications between the two over their first couple of seasons and it took time for Romo to trust him.

Wr and QB is the chicken and egg argument. A good receiver will make a decent QB look good, a Good Qb can make decent receiver look good. You just do not see a lot of premiere receivers hit the open market in their prime, I guess the closest would be vincent Jackson. Miles would have still been here if his hamstrings weren't made of tissue paper due to that he had to run things at 3/4 speed. Robinson, I do not fault him for taking #1 money from the Jags even though he was really #2 unfortunately too many concussions ended his career at least he got a good chunk of change before it all went away. Crayton was decent slot guy and I think he was used wrong everywhere else. romo sure didn't go out of his way to make RW11 look like an NFL receiver.

This.

Kind of like Plaxico Burress then and OBJ now with Eli. Eli loves throwing those jump balls.

It's a big advantage for any QB who has a receiver who can go up and make contested catches. Jason Garrett who was an average QB had a career game in 94 on Thanksgiving throwing balls up to Alvin Harper who had 3 catches for 91 yards and a TD.
