Tony Romo fails in bid to qualify for U.S. Open golf

5/9/2011 2:52:27 PM

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo ended his round at the U.S. Open qualifying event at Stonebridge Country Cliub at 9-over for a score of 81 according to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News.

He was eliminated from competition.

Romo reached the sectional qualifying stage for the event last year, but he withdrew once a weather delay threatened his Cowboys workout schedule.

Yeah maybe he can finally get the team together for training.

+9 .........ouch! :(

If he brought that game to a US Open course he could easily shoot +30.

being so preoccupied with football, he probably wasn't concentrating on golf enough and is why he didn't make the cut. That or trouble dealing with the windy conditions. ;)

Nicely played sir.

Enough is enough.

If Tony Romo wasn't so distracted by his irrational need to play football, he would've won a major tournament a long time ago. Did Jack Nicklaus go around playing football in his spare time? Does Tiger Woods?

Exactly. Romo needs to stop football and concentrate on golf.

EDIT: Nevermind. Someone beat me to it. :D

That's a shame.

I doubt he was giving his game enough attention but he could have just had a bad day. It happens. Scratch golfers don't always play around par.

I know, I'm just saying that US Open courses are prepped to incredibly difficult levels.

I love how people seem to miss this important information in the bolded area from last year.

Yeah he's so 'distracted' and consumed by his golf that he found the time to withdraw cause it might have threatened his Cowboys stuff.

Yet there are still people who can't grasp this and question his dedication.

Unbelievable.

Right, I was waiting for the 1st comment about that, and it was right away.

I would bet everything I have, that if TR had kids, and he took time to go see a school play, people would still say....he needs to be studying film, not watching his kids school functions.

But yet the persons saying that about TR, go to see their kids school plays, and not studying for their work the next day, whether they are "going to the drug store to sell flair pens" [from Steve Martin] or a CEO of say, Exxon Mobil.

I hope the people that rag on Romo for having a life outside of football during an off season don't have kids!

There is so much truth in that it's not even funny. People act like he focuses on golf. If he really focused on golf, he would PLAY in the us open, not just fail at qualifying. I mean, really, do you think a guy with his athleticism and money couldn't qualify for the us open? It's not like he NEEDS money, so if he really wanted to make the us open, he could pay for the best swing trainer, and spend the same amount of time that Tiger Woods does. But he doesn't, because he FOCUSES ON FOOTBALL.
