Before the Playoff game Parcells said, "Tony knows what I want now, more than before."

That statement says alot. In other words, when he was not doing what BP wanted we were winning games. Then when Romo started playing like Parcells wanted, we started losing games.

Ya know, when we hired Parcells I made a tougne in cheek comment, joking that Parcells who was an old NFC East rival was coming here to make the team worse.

Maybe I was closer to being right than I thought.

WHile I still don't belive that, honestly, I cannot figure Parcells out. He took a player with great potential in Roy and makes him play out of his element. He takes another player with great ability in Ware and turns him into a coverage OLB.

We had a guy who was proven at DE and was our only pressure guy till Ware got here and switched him to OLB (Ellis) and then we get Romo in there and he plays lights out for 5 weeks and then Parcells gets into his head and he looks like the second coming of Ryan Leaf.

I think the 4 things Romo needs is to:

1. Pay no attention to Parcells.
2. Pay no attention to Parcells.
3. Pay no attention to Parcells.

and finally and most importantly....

4. Pay no attention to Parcells.
LOL. Exactly!

How do you work on arm strength?

Maybe lots of curls. :)

I was thinking the same thing. Arm strength is something you have or you don't.

But Romo's arm strength is fine.

His problems are more along the OL.

ZONERS--what do you believe ROMO needs to improve on?

My list

1. Protect the football......

2. Work on arm strength

3. Throw the ball away when the play breaks down

4. Keep Carrie Underwood off the field
Change 2 to "Improve consistency of throws"

Change 4 to "Improve peripheral vision"

If he can learn to scan the line a bit after the snap he could probably improve some on #1 as a side-effect. There were also an unusual number of throws late in the season that wound up thrown pretty straight but low (knees or below). Maybe that's what CC means.

That is a good question.....I do not have the answer, however, I have read articles about how QB's worked hard over the off season to improve their arm strength and it is paying off on the playing field.

YES

Not sure how you could really do it?

3. Throw the ball away when the play breaks down

Definately. This goes into what BP was saying on that goal line play earlier in the season. <Romo got away with one, that easily could have gone for 6 the other way>. I think he got away with alot of those types of plays earlier in the year, and as it went on, the odds cought up with TR. The one positive I see from Romo playing the way he does, is it shows us he has alot of confidence in his ability to make plays.
4. Keep Carrie Underwood off the field
send her my way

1. Know when to hold them - not like Bledsoe though
2. Know when to fold them - throw it away
3. Know when to walk away - audible
4. Know when to run - it is OK if you do it now and then.

There you go!!

2 guards + 2 tackles = the 4 things.

LOL Close to my thinking. I say 2 guards, 1 free saftey, 1 more pass rusher.

As far as his own game goes. I'm not so sure it actually declined as much as the numbers and final scores might suggest.

I think at some point, perhaps as early as the Giants game, opposing teams came to the conclusion that he was that good. They needed to really focus their defensive efforts on thwarting our passing game at the expense of run defense.
Those efforts paid dividends as our weak running game was exposed.
From thier I think it snowballed. Cover 2, bumb the WR's and TE, get the DL shooting gaps to pressure Romo. More and more of this, and now help from the running game to keep teams honest.

I think we had a similar problem exposed on defense. We had been so good at defending the run all year on 1st and 2nd down.
I believe this was due to an over emphasis on defending the run on those downs at the expense of any real pass rush or effective pass defense.

The Saints and Eagles took advantage of this big time.
They built thier leads throwing. 1st, 2nd and 3rd down.
Due to the tactics employed and to some extent the talent on the field, passing is the way to beat these guys.
Pass, pass, pass, build a lead, sustain long drives, tire out the defense.
Then when they are worn out in the second half, pound them with the running game and protect the lead.

When a QB goes into a funk, you devise short passes, screens, end arounds, flea flickers, quick hitches (last 2 games I saw none of those)

Yea, and heaven forbid lining up a potent possession receiver in the slot and running a 3 step drop, quick slant once in awhile huh?

There are ways to increase the velocity on the ball,, if you want to call that arm strength I guess you could. But working on Hip Rotation, stronger legs to create more torque on your upper body during the throwing motion, those sorts of things will increase ball velocity.

You can also do more arm excerises to increase muscle stamina in the arm, allowing you to have an increase in arm motion without slowing the release down.

4 things to make Romo a better Quarterback.

2 guards a tackle and a pass-rush to keep teams going 3 and out. ;)
