What's with all this 'Romo has problems with the media' stuff?

Ok, so Tony Romo hasn't really been talking to the media all that much over the last two weeks. I don't think it's that big of a deal because nothing really 'ground breaking' has been going on lately.
But today Romo came out and was all about talking to the media so the Dallas Area Media are making a big deal about it.
Here's just about all the info that's out there and trust me it's a lot of just talk, but it's pretty interesting to look into because I love the way everyone agrees that if he wins a Super Bowl he gets a free pass on this type of nonsense, lol.
Let's begin with Nick Eatman doing a write up of the Q & A that Romo did in the locker room today, read here.
The questions began with some good football stuff and I think Romo is going to hit more deep balls this season than he's going to miss.
Then it went off into this 'Tony Romo vs Dallas media' stuff.
That's just me being honest. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing either. I know that it does keep me living and breathing Dallas Cowboys 24/7/365 so guess I can't complain.
And by the way. Troy's right and Romo should take the advice of Bill Parcells and make himself a little less of a celebrity QB, if that's even possible now, because it has to become overbearing at some points to always have to be 'live on air' when you are just trying to go to the store and get some groceries.
Ok, now let's go to some audio from today on ESPN Radio in Dallas.
First here's Matt Mosley, Brian Estridge and Steve Dennis discussing the issue. There is also a clip of Romo talking from the locker room. Just to let you know the beginning is about how Rich Dalrymple, the Cowboys head of Public Relations, had to tell Romo after the game on Saturday that he had to talk to the reporters in the locker room and also go up to the podium and speak at the post game presser...

Gotta give it up for Mosley because he's clearly sticking up for Romo in there. Steve Dennis is very confusing. Is he saying Romo doesn't get the benefit of the doubt if he is a little annoyed at the media because he hasn't won a Super Bowl just yet? Or he is just saying that the rest of the media are acting that way?
I could see Romo getting a little tired of being the best friend to the media all the time. I could also see him taking offense to some of the stuff that is said about him. He has taken a lot of criticism over the last year and half and if his worst 'blow-up' is him not wanting to speak to the media after a preseason game then I will take it. Let's remember how well Ryan Leaf handled the media when he took a little flak in San Diego back in the day.
And yes, I do think Steve Dennis is being a little annoying here. He's making a mountain out of a mole hill and it seems that all this started when he interviewed Romo during the game against the Broncos.
Here's more info on that and basically Randy Galloway calling Dennis, who is on the phone, an idiot on Galloway and Company today...

Romo did save this franchise! Even trying to compare his status with that of Drew Bledsoe or Quincy Carter is completely silly. This kid is a Superstar who tore up the NFL last season and he's going to be doing that for many years to come.
Moving forward I just hope the days of Tony Romo frequently talking to the fans thru the media aren't over. I love his interviews because he's down to earth and he gives us answers which aren't scripted. I also hope he keeps up a good relationship with the Dallas media because it was pretty frustrating watching Roy Williams go thru his bad times with those guys.
Never a dull moment with the Dallas Cowboys folks.

You've missed two deep balls here lately? We're not used to that. Anything to that?
Romo: No . . . I think, I mean you're not going to connect. I think it's a good thing when the only thing that people have to talk about is missing on the deep ball or something. You're just trying to get timing down. I'm sure I've missed two deep balls at some point in my career at different times. There's just not many throws now at the beginning of the year. I've only thrown the ball 20 times, or whatever it's been so far, or 30 times, whatever. So it's like people are just going to look at certain things. You're always trying stuff in the preseason, trying to get yourself to a certain point. I'll really condense everything that I want to do going into the season, know what I'm doing well and do those things.
Since you're a golfer, is not dwelling on it like missing a couple of 4-foot putts?Romo: No, it's practice. At the end of the day, you're trying to improve on something, you know. One ball that I might not do a certain way tomorrow that I did yesterday. I feel like the best thing that happens to me are the mistakes that I make because very seldom do I make the same mistake twice . It's a learning experience, something you go through, something you do. Like I said, it's just something you throw out in the preseason. That's part of the reason I didn't talk a lot the last week or two. There's not much to talk about. You just kind of get out there. During the preseason, you're just trying to get better. But there will be plenty of stuff for everyone to talk about during the season, each week, about what we did or what we did wrong and everything. It's difficult when you're trying to get better and everyone is watching because you're practicing, so you're trying different techniques, doing different things to prove yourself as an individual and as a team. And so I think for us, you know, you're always judged when you step out there in front of the cameras. We're just trying to get better and get to that point where we feel like we're playing our best level in Week One, and I think we've accomplished that.

You didn't really talk much to the media? You weren't mad were you?
Romo: No, I think I don't really get mad. I don't ever get mad or any of that stuff just because it is what it is. I've said it a lot of times, if you're expecting all you guys to talk good about me all the time, then you're in for a bad feeling, I guess. It's just part of playing quarterback, it's part of being part of a franchise like this, it's part of being in this position ... is getting ridiculed. There's always going to be talk, some is good, some is bad. I've learned that, that's part of it. For me, I'd rather not always talk about it, more than just ... sometimes it's fun just to play the game, and go home at night and talk about what's fun at practice.

So you just like playing the game sometimes?
Romo: I'm just saying like instead of being right here, this is OK, but ... like talking about the deep balls or talking about our team, what we need to get better. We're practicing. I mean that's what we're doing. For us, it's just we want to improve and get better, and it's fun not to have … it's almost like the business side of the game. The game is so much fun and you love playing the game, and sometimes you just like to just play the game because it's a game and we really enjoy that side of it. Sometimes when you're in a contract dispute, or when media wants to talk all the time or everything, it doesn't allow me to go sit in the locker room for 25 minutes and talk to the guys. I've always got something I've got to do. There's always something that you have to go do over here, and you miss out on a lot of the fun stuff. But I'm lucky enough to be able to do this for a living. I try sometimes to say, I'm going to put some stuff on the backburner. I'm not doing this, I'm just going to do this and have fun and enjoy it. And for me, that's always something I try not to take for granted, those moments. You're not always going to have that, so use that.
Did you ever ask Roger Staubach or Troy Aikman how to handle it?
Romo: Troy said not to talk to you guys all the time.
Is it just me or does the Dallas media think way too highly of themselves, as if they are celebrities just like the media? I have been blogging this team for three years now and I have gotten to know some of these guys thru emails and whatnot and most seem like nice guys. But I think every now and then they need something to write about so they create a little controversy out of nothing.Romo: I'm just saying like instead of being right here, this is OK, but ... like talking about the deep balls or talking about our team, what we need to get better.
