Twitter: Romo says he was rusty

Wonder when I come to work on a Monday morning, and have a screw up, cost the company a loss in some respect.
Do you think they would buy the excuse I am rusty from the weekend....LOL

Depends,

How many years left on your contract, how much guaranteed money is owed you and how big was your signing bonus?

We will see on Sunday....if the trend continues then something may be really wrong with him physically. If the coverages were different from what he expected from the 49ers then that is on him and the coaching staff for poor preparation and failing to adjust.

Yeah, they for sure should have had adjustments... and really, it looked like they did make some halftime adjustments, because Romo played *some* better in the second half. However, any staff can guess wrong on a gameplan. That happens to everyone from time-to-time. Particularly when you have a new coaching staff to play against, or a secondary with a lot of new people in it like SF had. They really weren't too sure how Harbaugh would play them. To me, it sure looks like we guessed wrong.

As with everything though, the truth will lie somewhere in between. I'm sure Romo was some rusty. I heard Romo himself say that at least on one INT he was expecting a different coverage. Romo could have been some off physically and not quite as mentally sharp as usual, and then throw in that he might have prepared for different coverages, and you could have a game just like he had on Sunday.

The picks he threw were inexcusable, mentally rusty or otherwise. Only if he admitted he temporarily lost his eyesight for 3 hours would those INTs make any sense whatsoever. It's not like SF tricked Romo with trap coverages or zone dogs.

You're right. I love Tony and I'm glad we have him and not an Alex Smith, etc but this comment is exactly right. There were no excuses for those throws, you have to take care of the ball, you're a veteran that simply cannot make those mistakes. It was a poor performance and inexcusable.

I know he will be better.

it doesnt explain the wobbly passes or terrible feet positions while throwing.

Yes it does. His timing and feel for the game was way off. The only way to get that is from reps, and as we all know, there were times in camp when Romo would get four days off in a row.

Goes against their whole "we can simply flip a switch" approach, but ok. Not that we ever bought that.

So true, so many people think preseason is for rounding out the 53 but it's for getting your starters reps together against other squads. Brady and Manning have said how important preseason is for getting reps for timing etc. What do those 2 idiots know

Okay...explain how Orton can come in on 2 days of reps and looked far better than Romo who's had a camp and pre-season games?

People, Tony mechanics and arm strength have not been there all year. You will not see Tony throwing it up this week, but judging from some of his short and touch passes we may still be in trouble.

I'm a Romo fan and even after the last game I support him but rust or no rust the picks were uncalled for and should never be forced no matter if we are talking vet QB or a rookie QB. I can get the fact he may have been so called Rusty but no excuse for the picks rust had nothing to do with it.

Exactly. Those were mental errors a vet Qb should not make in a game.

Go back and look at the games where he did that kind of thing. Doesn't have a flipping thing to do with lack of work in the preseason. Of course we never thought that.

Orton had an entire offseason program (Romo did not), a full training camp (Romo did not), extensive preseason action (Romo did not), and sixteen weeks in practice running the scout team before playing the Eagles in the finale.

Noooo.

Yeah, it's why I said it's important that he plays as much as possible in that 3rd preseason game while others were telling me he didn't need to play. Practice was enough.

You can not simulate game action.

Let's get this straight. Romo is too much a vet to make those kinds of mistakes but he needs practice so he won't make those kinds of mistakes. And there are no excuses for this kind of thing although not enough practice makes a veteran QB do these kinds of things. This kind of stuff gets hard to take after say a decade or two.

I've said there is no excuse and Romo has no business making that many mistakes in one game. But if go back thru the history of the game you'll see QBs have games like that and they are inexplicable every single time it happens esp when it's an elite QB like Troy, John Elway, Johnny Unitas, yada.

It has nothing to do with preseason snaps. It has to do with thinking you can get your team back into it because you generally do. You cannot win very often Tony when you turn the ball over twice much less three times and rarely as in hardly ever when you do it four times.

Romo's mechanics were poor. Even when he had time he didn't set his feet, jumpy in the pocket and looking to escape for no reason. Scared of 49ers defense or what idk. But that was a very poor showing. I bet romo plays lights out vs the titans who also have a pretty good D.

In that one tweet WG posted it was Tony that said he wasn't mentally sharp.

Which I don't think translates to 'unprepared', I just think he didn't get near enough reps in preseason.

The game moves at the speed of light for a QB, I don't think there are many who can just step on the field and play effectively.
