Quarterback Tony Romo will not practice this afternoon, coach Jason Garrett said.

There are no injury concerns with Romo, who went through the morning walkthrough after Monday’s off day. He is expected to practice Wednesday.

Garrett said the team will practice their two-minute offense this afternoon and felt that it would be best for Romo to watch from the sidelines. The Cowboys are continuing to take a cautious approach with their star quarterback early on in camp even though he was deemed full-go at the start.

“He hasn’t had any setback but the biggest thing that we talked to Tony about and really all of our players about, is honest feedback,” Garrett said. “We recognize that you’re a tough player, I saw what you did against the Commanders last year. You just got to tell us how you’re doing, how it’s going and make sure we handle it the right way each and every day.

“There’s an old adage in football, a day off can be really valuable. Two days off can be life changing, so when you get in this kind of a situation, we had yesterday off, got some good work this morning in the walk-through, some mental work of some of the different situations we’re working on. Off this afternoon and hopefully back as it tomorrow.”

Romo was also held out Friday afternoon.

Romo is coming back from having a second back surgery in the past year. He underwent surgery to repair a herniated disk last December, which forced him to miss the final game.

“We know he’s going to be our starting quarterback, you’re really pointing yourself towards that first game against San Francisco [Sept. 7],” Garrett said. “You want to have that in mind the whole time.”

Easy to say stay calm now. Let's see if it's the same tone if he's rusty the first few weeks of the season. He's missing quality practice time and this is a new offense...hopefully there are no excuses later then. *remaining calm*

Thats the bottom line. Hows the back going to hold up when he ACTUALLY gets hit by people who get paid to bring him down.

So hold on I am trying to understand this. The players had Monday off? And a walk thru this am and he won't practice until tomorrow? So the day off yesterday was pointless for Romo?

Look folks, Romo is feeling some pain in his back. Can the Cowboys come out and say it? NOOOOOOOO. We better hope Wheeden is looking pretty darn good, just in case.

They said it was a cyst and given he wet throught camp and he played last year this does not mean the 2 issue were even related. A bludging disk and the removal of a cyst are quite different. You claiming he is in pain based on what? Romo says he is not but you know how Romo feels? Give it a rest bring facts not this crap

Well, yeah, we are going to be running the ball more this year so Romo doesn't have to practice as much. So, relax! :)

No and sad part is they explained that they would take it slow and easy with Romo to start camp but as normal many did not listen to that and so when he did not work out the other day that all of a sudden meant his back was giving him problems.

All people heard were that he was 100% good to go and some forgot about the slow and easy part.

They have said they will increase the work load as they move on but then this was mentioned before camp even began.

Health wise according to Tony he is but that never meant that he would not be limited to start camp to ease him back into full workouts and even talked about that before they got to Oxnard. So when people say look see he is hurt, is really too funny when all they are doing is going by what was planned in the 1st place.
