<snip from Galloway's article>

From what Romo says, however, Garrett is showing no signs of being a timid newcomer.

“I hate to use the word exotic ... but we will probably be doing more and expanding the offense more, and using new things every week,” Romo said. “I thought the offensive staff did a good job last season with what they were allowed to do under Bill, not to say it was right or wrong.

“What makes Bill so good is he tried to limit situations where mistakes could be made. He wanted to keep it pretty simple. Jason, I’d say, wants to try and get everyone on the same page to adapt to some new and fun things, hopefully.”

When I try to read into this, I still have no idea what to expect from this offense come next year.

So does this mean teams won't know that we're using a draw play on third and long now?:

the problem I had with Bill was always that he was way too conservative for my liking. he never had a wide enough range of plays on offense and his defence was always coverage and I fully expect both of those things to change this year. more offensive plays and we all know Wade loves to blitz.

While Phillips likes to blitz, he also loves to do lot more stunting then Parcells would ever allow. The only game I recall that the Cowboys defense was allowed to do much stunting was in our game against the Colts. In fact I couldn't believe how well we played against the high-flying Colts offense. Hopefully we have the players to allow Phillips to fully implement his whole 3-4defense and maybe even come up with more exotic uses.

that's the kind of defence I hope to see Wade apply, we were allowed to play free against the Colts and the defence was awesome.......we forced fubles, got to Peyton and in general roughed up a great offense, if we could do that every week we would be a lot more effective.

Wow; So it seems that Jerrah is ready for more spice to this team as a whole....we added defensive-minded Coach who takes alot of chances, but if successful could make this defense really dangerous, and an offensive Coordinator who is going to mix things up and also take chances. I tell you what: this team is going to be either one of THE MOST if not THE MOST ENTERTAINING TEAM in the league on both sides of the pigskin next year or we will be getting messed up by all the risks we are taking.

Look, taking chances are good, and I liked that BP wanted to preseve the lead we had, but I think Garret and Phillips are going to want to step on our opponents throat early to prevent the team from having a chance to come back....I only hope that they don't decide to do the fancy-stuff on sucessive offensive and defensive posessions.

Side note: I wonder if Phillips is going to be as agressive in the post-season should we get there with the defensive scheme as his supposed regular-season agressiveness ; I think that was to baltimore's detriment that they never blitzed or attacked like they did in the regular season, which hindered their effectiveness.

We stunted. Hell, check out the Seattle game on the Seattle play right after Romo bobbled the snap

It was 1st and 10 on the Seattle 1 yard line and we needed to hold them to 3 and out. They wanted to run as much clock out as possible and not risk a turnover. Chance that they were going to run the ball? Eleventy-billion percent. So what did we call? A line stunt. A STUNT!

Spears is lined up at RE and Ware is lined up on the line outside of him. Spears stunts OUTSIDE. I kid you not. Ware slants in and Spears goes outside. On a guaranteed run play.

The safety net in the play was Roy Williams lined up directly behind Spears waiting to plug the hole. But as Alexander ran directly up the middle Roy bit inside just before Alexander cut left, right through the giant gaping hole caused by a stunting Spears.

I remember that...but that was Zimmer the idiot running the D then; Phillips knows stunting is dangerous. He won't do that me thinks.

Romo accidentally bobbled the snap.

Parcells/Zimmer intentionally called that idiotic play. Just sayin...

More big plays, but also more mistakes.

Our offense with reading this quote from Romo seems like they will have a chance to be even more explosive than the Colts!!! but there is always a BUT and thats that there is also the chances of bigger mistakes by our offense because obviously Romo still has a long way to go before he reaches Payton's level and until our entire offense as a whole still has a long way to go till its perfected like the Colts offense has done the last 7 to 8 years

Well, in order to get better you have to make mistakes and take risks...otherwise you just reach a comfort level and stay there, never trying to get better...

The problem with using the same plays over and over again during the season is that other team can counter that because you never change up...

Using different plays and some trick things that nobody has seen can be good because it can catch someone by suprise...and then again, if you mess up, it can cost you big time...

But, it's better than running vanilla all the time because you don't want to take the risk of a turnover...

DICTATE to the defense what you are going to do...don't just take what the defense will give you!

OFFENSE BABY!

;)

no yea i agree completely 100% with u!!! ive been asking for this basically the last 2 years and looks like finally my prayers have been answered :D. basically im trying to get people to realize the risks so if we struggle especially early (which is probably expected) with mistakes that they wont be rushing to jump off the bridges and be just a little patient till the offense gets better. although with some of the people that post here maybe im wasting my time :laugh2:

You are right! The first time some gadget play goes to hell...there are going to be some posters here wanting to fire the whole staff!

But when it's forth and long and and everyone is expecting a punt, when the ball is snapped and McBriar throws a touchdown pass to Crayton then everyone (me included) will be like....

"We are SuperBowl bound"!

The more the players talk, the more evident it is that BP was holding guys back. It's obvious from what Romo said that he wished that last years offense was "let go" of a little bit more than it was.

I have a feeling that the sense of frustration amongst the players was more than most of us know.

In my opinion, it wasn't so much that he was conservative as that he was conservative in big games. We always seemed to blitz the heck out of the Arizona Cardinals (remember the two safeties on back to back drives in 03?) and used flea-flickers on the Detroit Lions, but when it was a big game against the Eagles or Seahawks, it seemed like he drew up the most conservative game plan possible, and never relented on it.

Usually if your backed up really deep in the wrong end of the field or its 3rd and say 13, 14, 15 plus id say about 95% of all teams in college, pro, and even highschool are going to run a draw.
