I can't wait to see some new things. I still want to pull my hair out when I think about how we played against Seattle on their walk on secondary...

But we had to stay away from Pete Hunter :bang2:

Wow....seems more and more like Big Bill was holding everyone back....wow

I guess you can say that in many ways, the business of football can be very similar to "real-world" business.....blame everything on the last guy who quit.

There is something to be said though about the approach of old school coaches and their effectiveness in today's modern NFL.

One thing is certain, what ever BP did, right or wrong, the Cowboys are in much better shape after he left than when he got here.

The more the players talk, the more evident it is that BP was holding guys back. It's obvious from what Romo said that he wished that last years offense was "let go" of a little bit more than it was.

I have a feeling that the sense of frustration amongst the players was more than most of us know.

I didn't have a huge problem with the Parcells offense, except slowing the game down. Sometimes you can't do that, and play for field position. Sometimes, you have to go and attact teams before they do it to you, force them back on their heels.

Other than that, Parcells ran a pretty decent offense. None of us have a clue what Garrett will run, I can't wait to see it.

Parcells played not to lose rather than playing to win. His gameplan left the score too close to the competition.

I hope Garret doesn't feel the need to tinker with the offense to such crazy extents as to prove his value or worth to the team. Sporano did a good job last year. I hope Garret can provide a happy medium between BP's walking on eggshells approach and a pass-happy Mike Martz type of offense that took excessive amounts of chances ( Tony Romo is great but Marc Bulger is so decisive and accurate with the ball that he can work really well in that system; another qb would have turned the ball over much more than Bulger did)

While Phillips likes to blitz, he also loves to do lot more stunting then Parcells would ever allow. The only game I recall that the Cowboys defense was allowed to do much stunting was in our game against the Colts. In fact I couldn't believe how well we played against the high-flying Colts offense. Hopefully we have the players to allow Phillips to fully implement his whole 3-4defense and maybe even come up with more exotic uses.

I see that game like the Philly game from 2005. Bill knew he had to be agressive to have a shot. Shame that he couldnt find it in him to pull that off each week.

We stunted. Hell, check out the Seattle game on the Seattle play right after Romo bobbled the snap

It was 1st and 10 on the Seattle 1 yard line and we needed to hold them to 3 and out. They wanted to run as much clock out as possible and not risk a turnover. Chance that they were going to run the ball? Eleventy-billion percent. So what did we call? A line stunt. A STUNT!

Spears is lined up at RE and Ware is lined up on the line outside of him. Spears stunts OUTSIDE. I kid you not. Ware slants in and Spears goes outside. On a guaranteed run play.

The safety net in the play was Roy Williams lined up directly behind Spears waiting to plug the hole. But as Alexander ran directly up the middle Roy bit inside just before Alexander cut left, right through the giant gaping hole caused by a stunting Spears.

In other moments of Zimmer stupidity, how many times did Ware have to cover Deion Branch in that game?

<snip from Galloway's article>

From what Romo says, however, Garrett is showing no signs of being a timid newcomer.

“I hate to use the word exotic ... but we will probably be doing more and expanding the offense more, and using new things every week,” Romo said. “I thought the offensive staff did a good job last season with what they were allowed to do under Bill, not to say it was right or wrong.

“What makes Bill so good is he tried to limit situations where mistakes could be made. He wanted to keep it pretty simple. Jason, I’d say, wants to try and get everyone on the same page to adapt to some new and fun things, hopefully.”

When I try to read into this, I still have no idea what to expect from this offense come next year.

A lot of times "more exotic" on offense means a lot more use of motion and maybe some more fancier plays like faking a WR screen and handing off the to tailback.

I generally really liked Parcells' offense. It was based on very versatile players and we ran a ton of different formations from the standard I to the empty back set. I do think that sometimes he was so afraid of turnovers that he wouldn't take advantage of certain things in fear of turning the ball over. The Seattle game was a perfect example where the Seahawks were game for getting torn up by passes down the middle, but Parcells opted to continue to stretch the field and keep the throws and reads safe for Romo who was in his playoff game on the road.

To be fair I always thought those swing passes to Terry Glenn were rather clever.

Maybe we can bring back the old Coslet "TE falls down and gets back up" route :laugh2:

I think what we will see this year is the difference between the Parcell's philosophy of "avoiding a loss" and the Phillips/Garrett philosophy of "seeking a win"
