By garnering a much higher pick, are you saying swap 1st with Arizona as well as get their second?I think Romo will garner a much higher pick than what some are predicting. He'll be far and away the best QB potentially available on the market, the free agent crop is a joke (unless Cousins hits the market) and it's a horrible year for drafting a QB. Personally I believe he'll be an Arizona Cardinal. The pieces are in place there with Fitzgerald, Johnson, and the #2 rated defense in the league. I think Arians who coached P. Manning, B. Roethlisberger, and A. Luck would jump at the chance to work with a guy like Romo who'd be a huge improvement over Palmer. Likewise I think Romo would be open to the coach, the veteran presence on the team, a good defense for once, a indoor stadium, and playing in a city that would embrace him rather than crap on him. Currently Arizona picks 9th overall in the 2017 draft and again at #44 in the second round. I think that early second round pick from the Cardinals is one to watch.

I think a NFC team will have to give up a lot for us to trade.
I don't think Dallas will cut Romo for that reason alone. They don't want Romo going to a NFC team.
The Broncos just make the most sense.
Paxton Lynch doesn't look near ready. Romo gives them a chance at a Superbowl for a couple of years.
Denver would be perfect, it's just hard for me to believe they'd give up on Lynch so quickly. The QB situation in Denver changes weekly though so who knows.
not to mention the invaluable education Lynch could gain from being around and playing behind Romo for a couple seasons. It's not really giving up on Lynch. They got him 4 years with a 5th year option.
That team is ready RIGHT NOW for a Superbowl. Lynch still kinda has that fish out of water look.
If they had a young / fringe team I would say stick with Lynch but they got a Ferrari with no driver.
Romo's worth a lot more than most think. Problem is, there's no way he doesn't end up at the team of his choice. Jerry's going to extend him the courtesy of picking his shot. If there are two contenders interested, we'll get value. If not, we might let him go for a relative song.
DEN and AZ are the two logical landing spots. That's if Arians isn't serious about his rumored retirement.
I think it's Denver. Familiar place, AFC contender, in need of a premium QB, with time on Lynch's contract. And I think we get less than we want for the benefit of getting Tony in the right position. Maybe we swap positions with them in rounds one and two, for example.
Romo for Shane Ray would be a win for both teams in my opinion.
We need a pass rusher more than a pick in the 20s and they need a QB.
My reasoning for why i choose Denver as our trade partner in my mock is that Denver doesn't want Romo hitting the open market. I'm still not sure we can get more then a 3rd along with a future late round pick for him. Get his contract off the books and get a late 3rd round pick. Pretty much getting a 3rd round comp for him. Ill take it. sure as hell not gonna complain if some other team is willing to give up more tho.I think a NFC team will have to give up a lot for us to trade.

I strongly disagree that Dallas lets Romo go to a NFC team without trade.
Dallas has gave him 14 mill a year as courtesy.
They will do everything possible to make it right but just like the PAckers did with Favre when they traded him to the Jets the Cowboys will do the same plan. He is not going to go to a NFC team unless we are well compensated.
We'll see. I think he goes to a contender, period. It's best for everybody if that's in the AFC, but if it can't work out, ultimately I think Jerry gives Romo his last shot. Whether we 'owe' it to him or not.
I agree, we don't owe him anything. But this is an area where Jerry's opinion may differ from ours.
In a draft thats very deep at the defensive positions of need, i would take picks for this year and cap relief from their on. Doubt we make that big of splash in free agency but i think we go harder in free agency then last year. We can get the money needed from restructures.DAL is in no hurry to move Romo for peanuts.......the salary cap hit is worse if we trade him before June 1st......I could only see DAL taking the big cap hit if they got a 1st round pick in 2017
By waiting they get more salary cap relief and probably a higher draft pick, but it will be delayed a year
So the choice is
Salary cap relief in 2018 and a draft pick in 2017
or
Salary cap relief in 2017 and a draft pick in 2018
