When you adjust for era, there isn't that much separating them. But Romo, with slightly better numbers, is a little younger, and most importantly, is still getting better--and has a team that supports him and is on the rise.

And yeah, despite these stats White put up during his first four years as a starter, he was benched the next season.

Considering Romo will likely retire as the Cowboys all-everything QB (single season and all time), they won't even be comparable in a few years. Romo is a wildly better QB. I'm tired of them being compared just because they both don't have a SB ring.

I always thought White got a bit of a raw deal in the whole Hogeboom fiasco. He actually looked pretty good in 1986 until he broke his wrist. After that, he just did not have it anymore.

Me too. That's why I went a little more in depth.

Romo will undoubtedly eclipse White's individual records just due to the nature of the game now. But unless he at least attains what White was able to do in terms of playoff appearances (and wins), I will find it hard to rank him ahead of him. I could care less how many team passing records he owns. Aikman owns very few, Staubach and Meredith are the same.

Yep. The advent of fantasy "numbers are everything!" football might be contributing to the shortsightedness.

Or some of us can distinguish the difference between individual skill and team accomplishments. If Romo holds almost every single club record, that is really saying something in terms of individual accomplishment.

Keep in mind that at that point White was playing with a team in decline, and in fact, as we found out, headed for rock bottom. Romo is fortunate enough to be on a team that is improving with each year.

Well, Danny was just as skilled (can Tony punt?), and to date, his teams accomplished more. Tony is much more mobile, however.

If Romo ends up with a White-like career, I'd be pretty happy. Both were very good QBs.

Note, I'm talking personal accomplishments here and not team accomplishments. There's a huge difference between the two.

the team was getting older but not really in decline or not comepetitive.

We went to the championship game in 80, 81, 82 and then won the division in 85. We were tied for the lead with two games to go in 84 and lost to the skins and....i cant remember the other team...sf ?

in 86 we were still a good team until white was injured.

87 the decline really started and that is when landry told tex to look for a new coach for the 88 season and he was set to hire marty schottenheimer and wade phillips until landry told tex he did want to come back later on!!!

the 85 team was still good though, I have watched three games from that season recently thanks to ologan.

Sorry, I guess I cut that sentence off short when I was reaqding your post. It is a legitimate point though.

The rise vs. decline factor can really be seen when you compare the defenses.

Of course there is always our OL...

Who did we have on the O-line when Danny was playing?

Woah! Really? Can you go into more detail about that? He was going to hire Marty or Wade? Or was Wade going to be the d-coordinator? Or what? I've never heard this before.
