Romo vs Marino; Battle of the Quick Releases

Like I said, Shula's teams were predominantly running teams until Marino got there.

Marino didn't need a running game and wouldn't have used one anyway.

So it's not like they couldn't, they chose not to.

Ok. So that was good.

Why? Why?

Why?

You must be too young to remember 1985 because if you did remember it you would know that one of the best defenses in the history of the NFL was taken apart by that same one-dimensional offense you tout. The Bears were undefeated (12-0) until they ran into the Dolphins and their passing game. Marino's quick release nullified the Bears 46 defense and killer pass rush.

The Dolphins only ran for 90 yards but Marino passed for 270 and 3 TDs as Clayton, Duper, and Nat Moore each had over 75 yards receiving.

That Bears team went on to win the SB after going 15-1 in the regular season. This game was their only loss that year and it wasn't that the Bears played a bad game, it was just that the passing game of the Dolphins beat them.

There really wasn't much of a running game to keep th Bears defense honest yet it didn't matter.

Next.

So what the hell are you arguing? Marino's release was so much quicker than Romo's it ain't funny. You just proved that. I guess that's what you were trying to do?

I was countering the statement that the Dolphins were one dimensional and defenses could easily shut them down. Obviously that as not true.

I do believe that Marino's release was quicker than Romo's, but some of that has to do with the receivers he had as well as his ability to make quick decisions.

I wasn't the one who compared Romo's release with Marino's, I was just countering some misinformation about Marino that was being touted as fact, which it clearly wasn't.

Is this games played over three seasons? Or the same amount of games played? Remember Romo did not start several games his first year.

Marino had alot less talent around him throughout his career than Romo did IMO. Marino never had a running game.

Thank you... You put Marino with TO, ROY and Witten , he goes to Superbowl. Marino was a field general. Romo is a field clown. Who cares about releases. Dont like how fans make Romo something he is not. A clutch QB.

Its like you guys are trying to convince yourself that he is something he is not. I want to believe to but I am a realist.

Posts like this are not appreciated, nor acceptable on this forum.

Cease and Desist.

:lmao:

Im sorry but.....I laughed out loud when I read that Marino had precision route running WR's while Romo had WR's that cut their routes off.....

Please.....

Marino made those WR's better then they were....Duper,Clayton were fine WR's.....but they would of never had those numbers without Marino.

I dont know...maybe Marino had a better OC then Romo :) because....

Marino never had someone like Witten..or Owens to throw to...

Im sorry....Ive watched Marino's whole carreer....the man was asked to basically win every game himself....most of the time.

Romo has had more talent to work with IMHO....

That being said......lets wait and see on how Romo's carreer unfolds....There is no doubt he has put up some impressive numbers. Romo was brought around perfectly and then stepped on the field with a very good young talented team. I was very happy in his first full season performance but last year I really got disappointed because I thought Tony made some questionable decisions and his body language bothered me when things went sour for him.

Im really hoping that Romo improves...and becomes the leader we need.

Marino has a 77 rating in the postseason, including 24 INTs in 18 playoff games.

Despite making it to the post season 10 different years, he managed to make the Superbowl once. And lost.

If that is what you are defining as clutch, we will be fine with Romo.

p.s. I personally would take Marino over just about any QB who ever played. I just think this 'clutch' argument is complete nonsense fueled by the extremely small sample sizes of post-season play.

I love Romo, but he aint no Marino. Marino was sacked most seasons under 10 per year and he was not mobile.

Completely different eras. Defensive linemen were offensive lineman that could tackle back then.

You think Brady Quinn is good.

lol

Imagine that...

Romo has a quick release and Red Genius has him throw vertical all day, instead of using a short passing game...

Marino's Line: att: 1427, completions: 871. comp % = 61%. tds = 98(6%) 44 ints (3%) 11431 yards// 8 ypa. 41 times sacked

WoW. Compared to Romos 6x taken sacks seems like Captain Ahab could scramble when he was young.
