If Roger played in an era where DBs werent allowed to breath on receivers downfield he would have much bigger numbers. Watch highlights of Mel Blount in coverage sometime. As it was he still put up HOF numbers and there is no QB you would rather have in tight games or coming from behind.

Why do you say this?

Troy's best years were 92-95, just so happened to be the years our entire team was loaded with talent. He was awful from 89-91, and injured or playing poorly from 96 to 2001. So, what did we get from Troy? A solid 4 years of production?

Different Eras

Staubach and Aikman were top 3 QBs in there era. Romo is top 7-10 in this era.

Staubach yes. Aikman was a top qb for maybe 4-5 years everything outside of that he was trash. And bs putting romo down at 7-10. He is top 5 and has been for quite some time.

So where was it in the late 90s? I was waiting.

Romo excelled with little around him. Troy excelled with EVERYTHING around him, but failed when he had to carry the team later.

You're comparing different eras.

Troys 4 best seasons were better than Tonys 4 best seasons if you compare them amongst other qbs in their era. @percyhoward has posted these numbers on here several times.

Tony Romo's 2014 league leading Passer Rating against all his peers is better than anything Troy did his entire career.

You put Jim Kelly with the Cowboys in the 90s, and he would have had himself 4 Super Bowl rings instead of 0.

The argument with Romo is how many of those 4 qtr comebacks were his fault? He has made a fair amount of bad plays to cough up the ball only to recover and make the game winning play too. Completely different game as well with Staubach....the passing rules were so in favor of the defense back then that his numbers really can't be compared to Romo's.
Yea, but how high would that number be if our defense could hold a lead? We've missed at least 3 last-second FGs that would have won games and added to the total as well.

For a single season. Now compare where Tony ranks in his 4 best passing seasons to where troy ranks in his.

Aikman was never considered to be a top 3 QB in the game. Young and Favre won 5 MVPs, Troy got 3 MVP votes his entire career, so clearly no one thought he was better than them. And no one gave him the nod over Elway or Marino either. Troy was a top 10 QB by actual performance, and the general estimation of him by media/player types was Top 5 because of his team's success and his big game performance.

Troy's best season was a 99 qbr in 1993. That is comparative to one of Romo's worst season. Troy had 3 different season where he threw more interceptions than TD's. Romo wouldn't be caught dead doing that.

People seemed to be really sensitive when it comes to Troy. Troy was a very good QB. Troy was a respected leader. But when the team around Troy was not good...Troy looked pretty ordinary. And trust me...I am a diehard Cowboy fan and love the triplets. But those 90s teams were about culture, coaching staff AND great players. No ONE person had to carry the weight of the franchise.

Since Jimmy and his influence have left the building. People really underestimate what a clown show this has been. Jerry is the BEST at creating a mirage. But quite frankly....a lot of the 8-8 years with Romo....would have been 4-12 with about 90% of the other QBs in the NFL at the time. And look no further than LAST year. Forget that we could not win games.....we could not score....we struggled to get 1st downs. So again...I don't want to turn this into a Jerry Jones "trash" session...but you really need to understand how discombobulated this on field operation was/is...and how Romo has literally broke his back to keep it from collapsing...and last year...the roof caved in.
