I think he needs to work on his accuracy when he rolls out or has to scramble. I saw too many passes get away from him last year when he was on the move. But it is something he can work on and get better at.

And not be afraid to tuck it in and run with it when everyone is covered ala Staubach and Aikman. Or just go ahead and take the sack if there is nothing else to do. He lost too many of them last year trying to make something happen.

I think Romo just needs game time to improve.

However, I think that there is a tipping point (a game or play) that will tell if he has it or not.

A defense that doesn't give up 30+ points per game.

Honestly, though, his accuracy on the move is probably his biggest asset.

Accuracy is key for him...he was horrible in the Seattle game. He was throwing the ball all over the place, but I can give him the excuse of being keyed up for his first playoff game.

Also, like has been pointed out about tucking and running, taking the sack, etc, he needs to take the dink and dunk passes and not always go for the home run. I love his guts and ability to extend the play, but sometimes I'd just rather him his the FB in the flat for 4 yards instead of taking a long heave.

Wow!

His accuracy while moving?

To me Romo is one of the most accurace QB's I've ever seen while scrambling. I'm shocked that you would suggest that he isn't accurate or at least less accurate than others at the position.

Have better starts to games. Romo often takes to long to get going. You wonder why he needs to make those 4th quarter heroics? It's because he was off in the first half.

Once he's in rhythm, he's pretty good, but he never starts on fire.

There's certainly something to that...

I think it's part Romo part the game plan. God almighty our game plans were conservative (for the most part) in the first quarter... no wonder we fell behind so often. It was run, run, pass or pass, run, run or run, pass, run all the time.

The answer is simple: He has always needed a good run game to set up play action and move the pocket. The reason he had the 4th quarter heroics was based on no running game early and running spread offense with no threat of the run.

To use a basketball metaphor, he needs to be a point guard not a shooting guard. He needs to distribute the rock to the play makers not create his own shot.

:laugh2: That covers most of it, WIllNickle.

Guess we need to pass, run, pass more, huh? You left that one out.

There are several things that he needs to do to improve his game, but I would settle with him just dumping it off more. I mentioned this during the season because, when rewatching games, I noticed a bunch of plays where he would have had or come close to a first down, yet he would launch it deep into tight coverage that would get knocked away.

On one play I was shocked because we had like 3 yards to get a first and he had Owens with tight coverage right at the sticks, which Owens dropped. Barber was 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage standing there waiting for the sure first down without a defender in sight and a wide open window for throwing. The sad part about Owens' drops is that they were more costly than just 'drops'. Many came on 3rd down or TDs.

I think with the subtraction of Rivera and addition of Davis, our running and passing games should improve greatly, so I am not worried.

I think he needs to bulk-up in the legs, get a stronger base so he's able to the drive the ball down field with more accuracy.

I'd like to see Romo get stronger too, so he can have more zip on his passes.

A little swimming regimen perhaps?

I'm ok with the rest of his game.

Romo needs to look for his check-down receiver more often, that will reduce the times he holds onto the football, and will reduce the chance for sacks and fumbles, which brings me to another point, Romo needs to hold the ball at the proper height when scrambling w/ it, instead of holding it down and out

Romo needs to manufacture several improbable come-from-behind wins so that this team believes that he's got those Staubach/Elway/Montana intangibles.
